Doric Smith wins Pechauer All American Tour Stop

The twenty-third stop on the 2007/2008 Pechauer All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) was hosted at Billiards on Main in Galesburg, IL, on Saturday, December 15. The $500 added event on a snow-soaked day drew twenty-two players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes. Doric Smith (Galesburg, IL) [ranked a “4” on a regional handicap system used] took an undefeated march to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Smith clipped Larry Miller (Peoria, IL) [4] 4-3. Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Smith overpowered Mark Hammerl (Galesburg, IL) [4] 4-0, while Miller clipped Randy Tenley (Galesburg, IL) [4] 4-3. In the B-side bracket Mike Dunklin (Bloomington, IL) [5] eliminated Brad Simpson (Galesburg, IL) [4] at 7th place 5-1, while Jamie Carlson (Galesburg, IL) [4] tied with Simpson courtesy of a loss to Rory Smith (Galesburg, IL) [4] 4-2. In the B-side quarterfinals Dunklin and R. Smith dispatched Mark Hammerl and Randy Tenley into 5th place by 5-2 and 4-1 scores respectively. In the loser's semifinals Rory Smith ousted Mike Dunklin 4-1, but Smith was upended in the B-side finals by Larry Miller 4-1. Doric Smith continued where he left off in the tourney finals, as he again cast off Larry Miller by a 4-2 margin for the title!

By virtue of Doric Smith being the highest-finishing ACS members in the event, he qualified for a free 8-ball singles entry into the 2008 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.
