Manny Villar

Senate President Manny Villar has filed a resolution commending Alex Pagulayan for winning the PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters that highlighted his string of success in his ongoing campaign in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Pagulayan's victory fortifies the Filipino's spot in this sport, which is the world's best. Like Efren “Bata” Reyes, Ronnie Alcano, among many others, he has done the nation proud and has shown the world the Filipinos' capacity to excel,” Villar said in his proposed Senate Resolution 394, which commends Pagulayan for his contribution to the pride and honor of the global Filipino.

Pagulayan, a stalwart of Puyat Sports and member of the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) captured the 2008 PartyPoker.Net World Pool Masters title after beating Finland's Mika Immonen, 8-6, in a thrilling finals match. He became just the second Filipino to win the prestigious annual tournament that gathers 16 of the world's best cue artists.

The 28-year-old Cabagan, Isabela native then bounced back from 22 racks down to beat reigning world 10-ball champion Shane Van Boening of the United States to win their $20,000 winner-take-all race-to-100 duel in TheActionReport.com TARPIT 2008 BCAPL National Wednesday also in Las Vegas.

Villar also thanked Pagulayan for supporting the recently-concluded Manny Villar Cup Billiards Tournament where Cebuano pool whiz Warren Kiamco emerged as the champion in the Professional Elite division and Laguna's Benson Pila won the Search for New Billiards Idol Sipag at Tiyaga Edition.

Villar said he will continue to support billiards, convinced that Filipinos will continue to shine in this sport in international competitions.
