William Millares is The New Billiards Idol

William Millares edged Godofredo Ducanes, 9-8, in finals to complete a sweep and crown himself champion of the seventh leg of the Search for the New Billiards Idol Sunday night at the Bugsy's Lair in Quezon City.

It was a breakthrough triumph for the 20-year-old Millares, a rising star of FE Promotions of Sta. Maria Bulacan councilor Fe Ramos, as he finally got to hold the Billiards Idol baton after coming up short a number of times.

Millares became the seventh winner of this in this twice-a-month competition organized by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) after Mark Mendoza, Roberto Dy, Jomar de Ocampo, Benjie Guevarra, Petiza and Egie Geronimo.

Prior to upending Ducanes of Jonathan Sy's Negros Billiards Stable, Millares, a resident of Binondo, Manila, trounced in succession Elmer Haya (7-5), Rommel Villanueva (7-3), Mike Takayama (7-3), Chris Bombita (7-2) and Johann Chua (7-5) to pocket the P10,000 top purse at stake in this tournament supported by Bugsy Promotions, Puyat Sport, NBS and Association of Club Karaoke and Disco Operators (ACKDO) and sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

Ducanes settled for the runner-up pot of P5,000. He made to the finals after beating Mac Querubin (7-4), John Rebong (7-4), Jetjet Leonares (7-5) and Manolo Tanasas (7-6).
