The WPBA Announces Its First Satellite Tour Event at The Borderline Billiards in Bristol, Tn

The Women's Professional Billiard Association is pleased to announce that Borderline Billiards, owned by WPBA Exempt Professional Janet Atwell, will play host to the WPBA's first Satellite Tour Event, July 10th – 12th, 2009.  The WPBA Satellite Tour will be a series of non-televised tournaments which offers an opportunity to all players to compete against top WPBA Exempt Professionals outside of WPBA Classic Tour Events.

Janet Atwell, Owner/Proprietor of Borderline Billiards, is excited to host the inaugural Tournament. “It has always been my goal to change the public's perception of billiards and have it see billiards as the classy and competitive sport that it truly is.  The start to reaching that goal came when I renovated a 1929 building in historic downtown Bristol, TN and opened Borderline Billiards. Bristol is known around the country as the “Birthplace of Country Music” and the world's fastest half-mile NASCAR track.  It is my hope that by hosting a WPBA Satellite Event such as this, Bristol will also be known for “billiards the way it ought to be”.

Borderline Billiards is adding $10,000 to the prize fund.  The field will consist of 64 competitors made up of Exempt players and amateurs alike.  WPBA Exempt Professionals will receive Priority Registration beginning May 11th, 2009 until May 25th, 2009. Thereafter the registration will open up to all players on a first come, first
serve basis until all 64 spots are filled.  The entry fee will be $150, with payouts going to 50% of the field.  Featured players who have already committed to participate include Allison Fisher, Sarah Rousey, Ewa Laurance and Tiffany Nelson-Crain.  Ticket information to attend the Borderline Billiards Satellite Tour Event will be available soon.

Melissa Herndon, WPBA Board Secretary and top Exempt Professional, has this to say about the WPBA Satellite Tour event at Borderline Billiards, “As a WPBA Board Member, I'm thrilled to finally see the launch of the Satellite Tour program.  The Satellite Tour is intended to bring the WPBA experience to areas that might not host a
Classic Tour anywhere nearby...and to give the WPBA players more opportunity to compete between Classic Tour events.  I think it very appropriate that our first event will be at a venue established and owned by one of our very own WPBA Exempt Pros, Janet Atwell.   As a WPBA player, I'm looking forward to experiencing some of that famous Tennessee hospitality when I head to Borderline Billiards to compete.  Janet Atwell is a terrific player and a great friend of mine, and I think she has done a wonderful thing by putting this incredible tournament on.  I'm really excited about
the whole experience...and I can't wait for July to roll around!”

Ewa Laurance, WPBA Hall of Fame Member and top WPBA Exempt Professional, is equally enthusiastic about the event, "I am so excited about our very first official WPBA Satellite Tour Stop! This is something we've been hoping to provide for our players for a very long time and it's so fitting to have one of our own players, Janet Atwell, owner of the beautiful Borderline Billiards hosting the inaugural event. I wouldn't miss it for anything!"
