Nevel and Parica fall at Viking Championship

Shawn Putnam dominated the match with Jose Parica

The action late Friday night at the Viking Cue National Championship is still hot and heavy.

After the break for the calcutta on Friday night, matches got underway and the fireworks started immediately. Larry Nevel lost 11-8 to Fred Lane from Columbus Ohio. Lane commented after the match that it was the best match he had played in his entire life.

Also on the winners side Friday night, Shawn Putnam took on Jose Parica. Putnam is usually the favorite at any Viking event he plays in, but not this week with stars like Parica and Strickland playing. Putnam came out strong in the match and dominated Parica on his way to an 11-5 win. Putnam will play John Maki on Saturday.

Other players advancing on the winners side Friday night were Shannon Daulton, Dee Adkins, Strickland and Gabe Owen.

Brackets are online and are being updated multiple times a day. Also check out Diana Hoppe's online photo gallery from the event.
