Mooney and Kniola take down the Texas Amateur Tour event at Big Johns Sports Bar

Dalton Riley and Tom Mooney

Big Johns Sports Bar in Houston,Texas hosted the 2nd event on the Texas Amateur Tours schedule on Oct. 16-17. There was 50 players in the amateur division and 8 in the womens division,$500/$300 Added respectively, so it was a great turnout for thier first tour event. They came from as far as Dallas,Texas for this one, and a few from Austin,Texas as well. We thank them for thier time and participation.

So with 50 players in the field we played down to 12 players, and they got to come back and fight for the cash on Sunday. The winners side had 4 players left they were Tom Mooney from Austin,Tx. whom played local favorite Blaine Barcus it was a close one that saw Tom edge clear near the end for a 11-9 win.  On the other half of the winners side Durango Duran of Victoria,Tx. outlasted Rodney "Houdini" Stewart by a score of 11-7.  So now we had Mooney verse Duran, sounds like a fight , well it was , and Mooney had his hand raised as the victor by a score of 11-7.

On the one loss side 8 players started the day here, they were Roy Payton, Leon Contreas, Brent Thomas, Kishon Jeter, Jim Walker,Noel Morin, Dalton Riley, and Don Bullard. Payton stormed thru the top half of this bracket while Riley did the same on the lower half till they finally met, they had both lost 1st round matches.Payton had won 5 matches to make it to the final day then he defeated  Leon Contreas 9-8, Brent Thomas 9-8, Rodney "Houdini" Stewart 9-3, to se up his match with Dalton Riley whom himself had won 5 matches to get to Sunday. On Sunday Riley bested Don Bullard, Jim Walker 9-5, Blaine Barcus 9-6, so now the 2 players wrecking havoc ran into each other and Riley steamrolled thru this match 9-2. This pitted Riley against Durango Duran, as Duran had been sent here from the Hot Seat match where Tom Mooney beat him down 11-7. It looked as if Rileys run was nearing an end as Durango had him 8-5, but Riley one to never give up clawed back and got to hill-hill where he broke and ran out to get a shot at the title.

THE FINALS: or so we thought, it was late and they agreed on some kind of arrangements between them where Mooney being on the winners side took the win and his Kamui gift bag and headed back to Austin. So congrats to Riley and Mooney for a great tourney.

On the womens side we had 8 players in the event, there was another womens event in the area so it had our turnout small, but still strong. The list of players was Beverly Matthews, Heather Bryant, Robyn Petrosino, Erin Russell, Deanna Kniola, Belinda Lee, Ricki Casper, and Rebecca Riley. Deanna went undefeated to win the event along with her Kamui gift bag. Robyn Petrosino was 2nd , Ricki Casper 3rd, and Heather Bryant 4th.

We would like to thank everyone that came out to play and we appreciate the support, if there is anything that you would like to be implemented into the rules or anything you would like changed please bring it to the attention of Brent Thomas or Melvin "Jr. " Miller.

We would also like to thank our sponsors Htownbilliards.com, Theactionreport.com(TAR), Kamui Tips, and  Jay Helfert, Author of pool wars which you can find at JayHelfert.com.

Also a special thanks to Rudy (owner) of Big Johns for letting us play at his venue, it's a wonderul non-smoking room, and there was plenty going on Sunday afternoon with the NFL Sunday ticket filling the place full as well, which made for even more excitement.
