Heiko Müller and Stefano Bazzana will battle it out

Monday, 08 August 2011: The straight pool competition at the Dynamic European Seniors Championship 2011 is down to two men.

Stefano Bazzana (ITA) defeated Luis Torres (POR) with 100:73. Torres had a bad start which Bazzana took advantage of. He never got to the table with a real good option of making a ball until the score was 44:8 in favour of Bazzana. Then, Torres managed to catch up 31:44. For a while, safety shots were exchanged. It was Bazzana to gain momentum first and steal some points off Torres, taking a 92:44 lead over the Portuguese. Everybody thought it would be over but Torres fought back. He made 29 balls to make the score 73:92 when he missed the important shot. That was the kiss of death for him in that match. Bazzana ran out and won the match with 100:73.

In the other semi-final, Heiko Müller (GER) won over Robert Sudic (CRO) with 100:89. Both players have performed quite well during the straight pool competition with Sudic being the favourite player on paper. For both players and the spectators the match turned out to be a marathon. Unfortunately, they could not tie in with their performances from earlier rounds. Many mistakes and errors happened and the match lasted over 2 ½ hours. The scoreboard mostly showed Sudic leading and Müller trailing behind. But the German was able to turn the match to his favour. In the end, Müller showed the better nerves, defeating Sudic with 100:89.
