White battles Park twice to go undefeated on GSBT

Brian White got by Ron Park twice to go undefeated on the Great Southern Billiard Tour stop on the weekend of August 20-21. Of the 14 matches played among this event's final 12, only five of them offered the eventual winners a serious challenge; two of those went double hill (with Park in one of those), one was a 7-5 match and the other two featured White and Park. The remaining nine matches featured average scores of 9.2 – 3 (White, a Double A player, had to win 10 in his three matches among the final 12, accounting for the decimal in the average score). The $1,500-added amateur event drew 57 entrants to The Clubhouse Bar & Billiards in Lynchburg, VA.

They met first among the winners' side final four, with White advancing to the hot seat match on the heels of a 10-7 win. White was joined by Doug Schulz, who'd just sent Greg Taylor west with a commanding 9-2 victory. White got into the hot seat with a 10-4 win and waited on Park.

Park had moved over to pick up Tommy Cook, who, to reach him, had dominated a match versus Buffy Jolie 9-1, and given up just two more in a 9-3 win over Jerry Varnado.  Taylor drew Brian Bryant, who'd allowed just one more rack against him over the previous two matches than Cook; defeating Dylan Letchworth 9-3, and Scott Roberts 9-2.

Bryant moved on to the quarterfinals with a double hill win over Taylor, while Park moved to join him with a 9-4 victory over Cook. It was Park moving on to the semifinals, but not before Bryant put up the other double hill struggle among the event's final 12 in an attempt to stop him.

Park then eliminated Schulz 9-4 in the semifinals, earning him a second chance at White. He'd come within three in their earlier battle among the winners' side final four, but got no closer than four in what proved to be the only set needed in the true double elimination final. White won it 10-6 to complete his undefeated weekend.

Free entries (valued at $60) were awarded 9/12 finishers Letchworth, Jolie, Mike Hancock, and Tom Pugh. Tour Director Shannon Daulton thanked Chris England and the staff of the Clubhouse Bar and Billiards for their hospitality, as well as sponsors Andy Gilbert Custom Cues, Nick Varner Cues and Cases, Mike Davis Exterminating, Tiger Products, and Delta-13 Racks.
