Semi-final matches all set

Saturday, 03 March 2012: Last year's tournament winner from Brandenburg, Dimitri Jungo (SUI) took out Bruno Muratore (ITA) clearly with 9:4.

It has never been the match of Bruno Muratore. That showed from the very first rack. Muratore should have won it but he made an avoidable mistake. In the second rack, Muratore missed the 8-ball. Instead of leading 2:0 he was 0:2 down. That obviously made him struggle. He could not find his rhythm while Jungo played solid and did not commit severe mistakes. In the 5th rack, Muratore was again on the 8-ball but fell in a position much too straight to get an angle for the 9-ball. He again missed the 8-ball and trailed 1:4, mainly because of his own mistakes. Jungo was focussed at all times and showed no emotions. He found his game and saw is opponent struggle which even encouraged him more. Muratore's losing streak continued. Trailing 3:5, he could move up to Jungo but again missed an easy 6-ball. Everything went against the Italian. He played bad and Jungo played strong. In the 13th rack, Jungo broke the 9-ball and ended a pretty one-sided match, winning 9:4.

Another remarkable result from the quarter-final session is that Albin Ouschan (AUT) ended the hopes of favoured US-Open Champion Darren Appleton (GBR) with a clear 9:4.

Earlier today, in the round of the last 16 players Nick van den Berg (NED) terminated Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) in a tough match with 9:7. In an all British clash, youngster Phil Burford dismissed Imran Majid with 9:5.

The semi-finals will be played at 14:30 (Melling v Ouschan) and 16:00 (vd Berg v Jungo).
