Torri and Selig go undefeated on Ride the 9 doubles event

 

Paul Torri and Mike Selig worked their way through a field of 32 doubles teams, going undefeated to capture the J. Pechauer Ride the 9 Tour doubles event. Held on Sunday, October 21, the event was hosted by Bo's Billiards in Warwick, RI.

Torri and Selig got by the team of Clyde Matta and Jim Prather twice to win it. They met first among the winners' side final four, with Torri and Selig advancing to the hot seat match. Yom Bounmala and Bill Roberge, in the meantime, defeated Jon Borglund and John Ferr. Torri and Selig prevailed against Bounmala and Roberge and sat in the hot seat.

On the loss side, Matta and Prather began their three-match march back to the finals against Jamie Forcier and Wally Britto, who'd downed the teams of Kerry McAuliffe/Dharma Lim, and Tony Barboza/Roarke Dickson. Borglund/Ferr met up with Gary Rose and Bill Cote, who'd defeated the teams of Catherine Fiorilla/Steve Sutton and Rich Senna/RayMarotta. Rose/Cote and Matta/Prather handed Borglund/Ferr and Forcier/Britto their second straight loss, and met each other in the quarterfinals.

Matta and Prather defeated Rose and Cote in the quarterfinals, and then defeated Bounmala and Roberge in the semifinals for a second chance against Torri and Selig. Torri and Selig, though, completed their undefeated run through the field of 32 partners, with a finals victory over Matta and Prather.

The event featured 15 raffles, offering numerous prizes, which included a J. Pechauer cue, valued at $520. Curtis Rohrer's name was drawn to win the cue. Tour director Gloria Magnano thanked Joshua Soulliere and his staff for their hospitality,, and noted the recent passing of Norm Brown, a long-time friend and employee of Bo's Billiards, and the Ride the 9 Tour.
