Mathew Lawrenson Wins GB9’s Mark Lovell Challenge Cup

The two finalists in the second Mark Lovell Challenge Cup were Mathew Lawrenson and Kevin Uzzell, both of whom have tasted success on GB9 before and were keen to take home a little silverware.
Lawrenson’s route to the final started with a 7-0 hammering of Dale Green before three back-to-back 7-6 wins against Michael Valentine, Chris Buckmaster and Kevin Simpson to put him into a his first GB9 final since winning the Challenge Cup back in June 2011.

Uzzell’s route to the final was somewhat more relaxed than that which Lawrenson took – 7-2 wins against David Hopkin and Alvaro Canoniga from Spain opened his account, followed by a 7-4 defeat of Damian Massey before shaking off Chris Melling 7-5 to proceed to the final showdown. 7-5 was the score-line in the final, but Uzzell was this time on the wrong end of the result. Lawrenson wrapped up a good quality match to take home the second Mark Lovell Challenge cup.

GB9 will return for the Northern Masters on 7 June 2013 from the Cedar Court Hotel, Leeds/Bradford, UK
