Paglia upsets Fisher in New Mexico

Angel Paglia

The ladies of the WPBA are back in action this week at the 2003 Brunswick Billiards US Open at the Sandia Hotel & Casino in Albuquerque, NM.

The biggest story of day one is Arizona's own Angel Paglia who scored a 9-7 upset over #1 ranked Allison Fisher in the second round. Paglia, currently ranked #50 on the WPBA tour, started with a 9-6 win over Fran Crimi and followed that up with quite possibly the biggest win of her career. Paglia will have her hands full in her next match as she takes on 19 year old Korean sensation Ga Young Kim. This was the second time in Allison's WPBA career that she has lost to a non-seeded player in a WPBA event. Tiffany Nelson was the first player to do it back in 2000 in Baltimore.

Another surprise on Thursday was young Anna Kostanian who scored a 9-0 whitewash win over Megan Minerich. Kostanian is currently ranked #91 on the tour while Minerich is ranked #25.

Complete brackets for the event are posted on the WPBA website.
