Pockets, in Tucson, was the host of the AWBT’s third stop of 2010! It is one of the best places to play in Arizona. The owners, Lenny and Donna, run a top-notch establishment. The staff provides fabulous and friendly service. We look forward to playing here again in the future. Thank you Pockets for your support!

Women came from all over the United States to play in this $300 added 9-ball event! We had players come from Wisconsin, Colorado, Nevada and Phoenix.

The AWBT want to thank Bill MacKinnon for providing live streaming Saturday and Sunday. You can view matches on www.ustream.tv/pool-arizona

The final eight players matched up as follows…Winners bracket: Samm Diep vs. Kathleen Lawless, Susan Williams vs. Rebecca Wagner. Kathleen and Susan prevailed in their matches and would meet up in the hot-seat match. In the one-
loss bracket…Jeri Engh vs. Ashea Erdahl and Sunny Griffin vs. Sara Miller. Ashea and Sunny won their matches, so congratulations to Jeri and Sara for finishing 7th/8th. More matches in the one-loss bracket saw Ashea vs. Rebecca and Samm vs. Sunny. Rebecca and Samm were the victors, so congratulations to Ashea and Sunny for finishing 5th/6th.

To mix things up a bit, we extended Saturday’s play and brought back 4 players on Sunday. Susan Williams vs. Kathleen Lawless in the hot-seat match and Rebecca Wagner vs. Samm Diep in the one-loss bracket. Sunday’s live-streaming started with Rebecca vs. Samm in the first of two semi-final matches. Samm won in a close hill-hill match.

Congratulations to Rebecca finishing in 4th place. Next up was the hot-seat match, Susan Williams vs. Kathleen Lawless. Susan was in control most of the match and won 7-3. Our second semi-final was a re-match between Samm and Kathleen.
Samm won this one in another hill-hill match. Congratulations to Kathleen Lawless finishing in 3rd place.

The finals were a single race to 9. It started with Samm winning the lag, breaking and making 2 balls but scratched, with Susan having ball-in-hand, runs out to win the first game. Susan fails to make a ball on the break and Samm makes a combination on the 9-ball, tied 1-1. Samm breaks, but does not make a ball. After a few exchanges, Susan wins that game. Samm wins the next, and they are tied 2-2. Samm breaks, makes a ball and runs to the 9-ball, misses and leaves a tough shot for Susan. Susan banks it into the side pocket. Score: 3-2 Susan. Susan breaks, makes a ball and after some defensive play from both players, Susan makes a great carom on the 9-ball. Score is 4-2, Susan. Samm breaks, and more safety play from both players, but Samm wins this one. Score 4-3 Susan. Susan wins the next game. The score is now 5-3 Susan. Samm gets on a roll and wins the next 5 games, gets to the hill first and takes the lead 8-5. After a few exchanges and some safety play, Samm comes out on top and wins the match! Congratulations to both Samm and Susan finishing 1st and 2nd respectively. Great match ladies!

Eight women came back on Sunday to play in the free 2nd chance tournament. Congratulations to Sara Miller for winning the tournament plus $25 and Jeri Engh for placing second and winning $15! This event’s drawing with our spinning wheel gave free shirts to Patricia Schultz, Jeri Engh and Claudia Justus. Claudia was also the “Lucky Loser” this time around and she will receive free entry into our next event August 28th at Bullshooters.

Our next stop is August 28-29 at Bullshooters! Hope to see you all there!
