Shaw tops small field at Carolina Ladies J. Pechauer Tour

Kim Shaw held off a strong challenge from the one-loss side by Buffy Jolie to complete an undefeated run at the Carolina Ladies J. Pechauer Tour stop on Saturday, July 18. A competing APA event in Charlotte, NC was credited with reducing the field of women to 12 in the $500-added event, hosted by Randolph's Billiards in Hickory, NC.

Shaw jumped into the hot seat match with a shutout victory over Dana Aft, as Janet Atwell sent Marianne Merrill west 7-5. Shaw's 7-4 win over Atwell put her in the hot seat to await Jolie.

Jolie, after a first round defeat, moved over to the one-loss side and began a string of five victories that would put her into the finals. She moved past Katie Cowan 5-3 and Alicia Putnam 5-1 to meet Merrill. Ami Kilby, in the meantime, defeated her own daughter, Meredith 5-1 and Karen Webb 5-3 to square off against Aft. Jolie and Aft moved into the quarterfinals with identical hill-hill wins over Merrill and Kilby, respectively. Jolie dropped Aft into fourth place 5-3 and moved into the finals versus Shaw with a 5-3 win over Atwell in the semifinals.

Jolie needed to win two in the true double elimination finals that followed. Shaw prevailed in the opening set 7-5 to capture the first place prize.
