Shuffett takes Smith twice for Great Southern Billiard Tour Win

Landon Shuffett defeated Chase Smith twice to go undefeated and capture first place on the Great Southern Billiard Tour stop on the weekend of May 16-17.  The $1,500-added, A-B handicapped event drew 55 amateurs to Palace Billiards in Greenville, SC.

Shuffett began his final three-match march to the event victory with a 9-3 win over Craig McPartlin from among the winners' side final four. Smith, in the meantime, dispatched Ray Benish to the one-loss side 7-5. In the first of their two meetings, battling for the hot seat, Shuffett prevailed 9-6 and waited for Smith to return.

It was Kenny Wilson and BrIan Turner waiting for Benish and McPartlin on the one-loss side. Wilson had advanced past Roger Jeffcoat and Adam Clark, as Turner got by Matt Mancini and Tony Williams. Wilson dropped Benish into the tie for fifth place 7-3. McPartlin prevailed through to the semifinals with a 9-2 win over Turner and subsequent 9-6 win over Wilson in the quarterfinals.

Smith got a second chance against Shuffett with a decisive 7-3 win over McPartlin in the semifinals. Equally decisive was Shuffett's subsequent final victory; a 9-2 win against Smith that brought home the $1,000 first prize.
