High Quality Matches in Junior 14.1

In the juniors division, last year’s most successful player Joshua Filler (GER) played for the first time just coming out of the pupils. His play was as strong as it used to be. The young German who also participates in the men’s Euro-Tour at times won all his matches today with clear results. He defeated Patryk Statkiewicz (POL) 100:28, Andreas Madsen (DEN) 100:47, Klemen Gradisnik (SLO) 100:44 and in the quarter-final match Pawel Kaczmarek (POL) 100:26 even. He will meet Tian Zhang (SWE) in tomorrow’s semi-final at17:30 CET. Zhang surprisingly ousted Raphael Wahl (GER) in his quarter-final match with 100:82. The second semi-final will be played between Spasian Spasov (BUL) and Daniel Tangudd (SWE). In that match, Tangudd definitely is the player who could be regarded as the favorite. But Spasov has proven today that he should not be underestimated by any opponent in this event. He lost his first match with Klemen Gradisnik (SLO) 76:100 but then started his crusade on the loser’s side. Victories over Dylan Vyvey (BEL) 100:83, Clemens Schober (AUT) 100:80 and Oliver Szolnoki (HUN) in the quarter-final with 100:77 demonstrate that Spasov definitely also is a factor to calculate with. On paper, Tangudd and Filler are the players who can be regarded as favorites for the semi-final matches.

In the pupils division, the defending Champion was not playing this year. Joshua Filler (GER), who won the title last year in Sarajevo and reached the age limit this year. However, there were still some brilliant players in the pupils division. One of them was Maksim Dudanets (RUS). The young Russian started at a very young age. He is 16 years by now and therefore eligible to still compete in the pupils. And he had a good day today. He won four straight matches in a row. In his first round appearance, he defeated Osman Sanlisoy (TNC) with 75:54. In the next round, Emil Bjorkmann (NOR) was his next victim with 75:17. It seemed as if Dudanets would get stronger during the competition. In the winner’s qualification round, he sent Frederico Amendola (ITA) to the loser’s side. Then, in the quarter-final match, he eliminated Nicolas Georgopoulos (GER) with 75:25. Dudanets will face Cyriel Ledoux (NED) tomorrow in the semi-final match which will be played at17:30 CET.

The other semi-final match will be played between Patrick Hofmann (GER) and Daniel Maciol (POL). Both players had four straight wins and the match is looking promising to become quite intense.
