Beaumont Wins GB-9 Ball Championship & Takes End Of Season Top Spot

Dave Beaumont

The BWPPA tour returned for Event 4, to Savanna Pool & Snooker, Whitefield, Manchester, from the 5-6 November 2022, where we were again made to feel very welcome indeed, by all the staff.

They were competing for the first prize of £250 from a prize pot of £680, and the title of 2022 Predator Cues GB 9-Ball Champion.

The top 3 in the rankings Dave Beaumont, Fred Dinsmore and Roy Kimberley all went into the event with identical provisional rankings points of 270, each knowing that whoever progressed further in the event, would end the season at the top of the pile, with the reward on offer a top of the event cue from our titular sponsors Predator Cues.

Before we began, we had a round of applause for the players who had won the recent world English pool championships in France and Ireland.

Phil Hendrickson: World Wheelchair Blackball Champion

Roy Kimberley: World Wheelchair WEPF (World Rules Champion)

Roy Kimberley and Dave Beaumont: World Wheelchair Blackball Doubles Champions

At the start of the event, Darren Brook had a good win over John Greensmith, but then ran into Beaumont, who took the match 7/3.

Early action saw Kimberley and Dinsmore have emphatic 7/1 wins over Geoffrey Blad and Phil Hendrickson Southern take a 7/4 win over Danny Luton, and Beaumont beat Phil Hendrickson by the same score.

In the final Winners round 1 match, Gary Swift repeated his recent WDBS Snooker finals win over Tony Southern with a 7/4 success.

In the winners qualifying round, Beaumont beat Swift 7/5, and Dinsmore took a hill-hill 7/6 win over old rival Kimberley.

In the losers’ side later stages, Southern beat Kimberley 6/2, whilst Hendrickson beat Swift 6/5, to both reach the semi finals.

The semi-final draw for the main event took place on the Saturday evening.

Dinsmore reached yet another final with a 7-0 whitewash of Hendrickson , and in the other semi-final, Beaumont easily overcome Southern 7-2.

It was to be a Beaumont v Dinsmore v final again, and this to decide the end of season top spot.

Dinsmore started off well to lead 3/1, and 4/2. Finding his game Beaumont made sone great single long pots and clearances to level at 4/4, and then go 6/5 ahead. Dinsmore than pounced on an error from Beaumont to take the final to hill-hill for a repeat of the GB 10 Ball final.

Beaumont held his nerve in the deciding frame, and after a miss on the 3 ball from Dinsmore, Beaumont made an incredible cut on the 3 ball, and then went around the table doing what he does best and potting balls, and left himself a long 9 ball which he made (after it rattled in the jaws) into the pocket to take the title, and go to no1 in the rend of season rankings for the 1st time ever.

In the challenge cup final, Swift defeated Bland 5/2, however Bland finished top of the 2022 challenge rankings and thus winning a cue from Predator Cues.

Beaumont Wins GB-10 Ball Championship & Takes Top Spot

Dave Beaumont

The BWPPA tour stopped at a new venue for Event 3, Savanna Pool & Snooker, Whitefield, Manchester, from the 17-18 September 2022, where we were made to feel very welcome indeed, by JJ Faul, his soon to be wife Christina and all the staff.

Due to the late club change, there was a small but quality field, each player either a multiple world and/or European Champion across the wheelchair cue sports.

They were competing for the first prize of £250 from a prize pot of £680, and the title of 2022 Tiger Cues GB 10-Ball Champion.

The early stages through up some good matches, but the top 4 seeds, Fred Dinsmore, Roy Kimberley, Defending Champion Dave Beaumont and Tony Southern, all made it through, as they have done for the last 4/5 events.

Early action saw Southern take a 7/4 win over Danny Luton, and Beaumont beat Phil Hendrickson by the same score.

In the winner’s qualifiers, Southern lost 5/7 v Dinsmore, and Beaumont took out the last event winner Kimberley 7/5.

In the losers’ side later stages, Southern whitewashed Hendrickson 6/0, whilst Kimberley beat Luton 6/5.

The semi-final draw for the main event took place on the Sunday Morning.

Dinsmore reached yet another final with a 7-3 win over Kimberley, and in the other semi-final, Beaumont hammered an out of sorts Southern 7-1.

It was to be a Beaumont v Dinsmore v final.

Beaumont started off like a house on fire, playing brilliant pool and pounced on some uncharacteristic errors from Dinsmore to lead 6/1. Finding his game from his champion reserves, Dinsmore went on a 5-rack winning streak to storm to a 6/6 hill-hill score line.

Beaumont held his nerve in the deciding frame, and after a dry break from Dinsmore, went around the table doing what he does best and potting balls, and left himself a long 10 ball which he slammed into the middle of the pocket to take the title, and go to no1 in the rankings for the 1st time ever.

They are a rolling ranking list, and the last event pre-lockdown in 2019, which Dave won, comes off at the start of the last event of the season, and therefore provisionally, all the top 3 players are level on 270 points, so whoever does best out of those 3, takes the coveted end of season no1 spot and the main prize from sponsors Predator Cues

A partial video of the main event final is available to watch here.  Facebook Live kept interrupting the stream due to music in the background.

Kimberley Wins The 2022 Simonis Grand Prix

Roy Kimberley

The BWPPA tour visited a new venue on the weekend of 2-3 July 2022 at Riley’s Leicester.

Current no.1 ranked player Fred Dinsmore (Ire) won the previous event in Birmingham.

There was a good field of 10 players competing for the 1st prize of £250, and we had a few absentees due to illness.

First round action saw Wales’s Phil Hendrickson beat Frankie ‘Hot Wheels’ Gillen 7/3, whilst Gary Swift edged his friend John Greensmith in hill-hill battle.

Other action in the early stages through up some good matches, but the top 4 seeds, Fred Dinsmore, Roy Kimberley, Dave Beaumont and Tony Southern, all made it through to the winner’s qualification round for the 2nd event in a row, with wins over Hendrickson, Swift, Danny Luton and Geoff Bland respectively.

Other action on the loser’s side saw Swift beat Gillen 6/3 and Hendrickson beat Greensmith 6/3.

In the winner’s qualifiers, Southern beat an under the weather Dinsmore 7/4, whilst Beaumont hammered Kimberley beat Beaumont 7/1.

In the losers’ side later stages, Dinsmore beat Luton 6/4 and Kimberley whitewashed Hendrickson 6/0, to both reach the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Dinsmore lost out on yet another final with a 7/5 loss to Beaumont, and in the other semi-final, Southern lost to Kimberley 7/4.

It was to be a Kimberley v Beaumont final.

The first 8 racks were all close and shared at 4/4, but then Kimberley took the

last 3 racks to win title.

Dinsmore Wins The 2022 W.A.A.M.A.D 9-Ball Players Championship as BWPPA Returns

Fred Dinsmore and Roy Kimberley

The BWPPA tour made a welcome return at the Shooters Sports Bar in Birmingham from 7-8 May 2022.

Current no.1 ranked player Daniel Lee was unable to attend.

There was a strong field of 13 players competing for the 1st prize of £250, this included 2 new players Ben Norfolk and Geoffrey Bland, who both performed well on their debuts.  Phil Hendrickson and John Greensmith both returned to the tour after many years away, and in a 1st round clash, Greensmith won 7/6.

Other action in the early stages through up some good matches, but the top 4 seeds, Fred Dinsmore, Roy Kimberley, Dave Beaumont and Tony Southern, all made it through to the winner’s qualification round.

Other early action saw newcomer Bland have a great win 7/1 over BWPPA stalwart Frankie ‘hot-wheels’ Gillen, and Gary Swift had a good 7/2 win over Aslam Abubaker.

We would all like to thank Aslam Abubaker for sourcing a new trophy sponsor, The Trophy Parlour in Leicester.

In the winner’s qualifiers, Southern missed a difficult 9b at hill-hill and lost 7/6 to Dinsmore, and Kimberley beat Beaumont 7/3.

In the losers’ side later stages, Southern beat Hendrickson 6/5, and Beaumont beat Abubaker 6/3.

In the semi-finals, Dinsmore reached yet another final with a 7/0 whitewash over Beaumont, and in the other semi-final, Southern again missed match ball to lose to Kimberley 7/6.

It was to be a Kimberley v Dinsmore final.

The first 2 racks went to Dinsmore, who then missed a tough 9b down the rail to lead 3/0.  Kimberley fought back well to level at 3/3, and the old foes traded frames to go 5/5.
Dinsmore was then snookered in rack 11, but played a great kick shot combo to pot the 9b to go 6/5 up, and then he broke and ran the last rack to win title and return to the top of the BWPPA rankings.

Dinsmore Wins The 2021 Predator GB-9 Ball Championship As BWPPA Returns

Fred Dinsmore

The BWPPA tour made a welcome return at the Escape Pool bar in Barnsley from the 10-11 October 2021, after a period of 21 months due the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The restrictions and other family issues impacted the entry as half a dozen regulars, including the no. 1 ranked player Daniel Lee were unable to attend.

There was still a strong field of 9 players competing for the biggest ever prize in GB wheelchair pool, £500 from a prize pot of over £1000, in this non-ranking tester event. For many of the players without their own table, it was the first time playing in a long while.

The early stages through up some good matches, but the top 4 seeds, Fred Dinsmore, Roy Kimberley, Defending Champion Dave Beaumont and Tony Southern, all made it through.

Other early action saw Jimmy Ifty have a good win 5/3 over close friend Adam Pearson, and Darren Taylor had a great 6/2 win over Danny Luton, who will be the sole GB wheelchair player at the European Championships in Turkey from 1-11 November, hoping to add to this array of medals.

In the winner’s qualifiers, Southern had to forfeit early on v Dinsmore due to an arm issue, and Kimberley fought back from being down and almost out v Beaumont to win 7/6.

In the losers’ side later stages, the rested Southern beat Darren Brook 6/1, and Beaumont beat Taylor 6/2, despite this lose, Taylor’s performance over the weekend resulting in him being awarded free entry to the first event of 2022, courtesy of one of our sponsors, Fred Dinsmore Billiards.

The semi-final draw for the main event took place late on the Sunday Morning.

Dinsmore reached yet another final with a hard fought 7-3 win over Beaumont, and in the other semi-final, Southern overcame Kimberley 7-3.

It was to be a Southern v Dinsmore v final.

The first 2 racks went to Southern, who then missed a tough cut on the black to lead 3-0.  At 3-1 to Southern, Dinsmore went on a 6-rack winning streak to storm to the title 7/3, with Southern spurning many chances to make it much closer.

A video of the main event final is available to watch here.

Pictures of the event can be found here in the BWPPA gallery.
