Stevie Collins Snags His First Omega Billiards Tour Title

Stevie Collins

On the weekend of February 20-21, the Omega Billiards Tour was hosted by The Billiard Den in Richardson, Texas.   The staff and owners treated the players well with great service and an amazing atmosphere, and we very much appreciate each and every one of them!

We were able to extend the field to 88 players for this second stop of the 2016 season.  And it was tough to predict who would come out on top with all the talent in the field.

Always a top contender, Crispian Ng, had a great tournament with tough matches over Chase LaFerney 7-5, teammate Robin Barbour 7-5, Alberto Nieto 7-4, Jim Colling 7-5 and best friend David Josephson 7-5.  Stevie Collins was fighting through the bottom half of the bracket with wins over Kyle Rowland 7-0, Chris Smith hill-hill, George Merchan 7-2, Ian Perez 7-1, and Anthony Schaeffer 7-2 before finding Crispian in the hotseat.  Crispian would win another close one in the hotseat match over Stevie by a score of 7-5.

Gerardo Perez would place his highest finish with an impressive 3rd place!  He lost his second match hill-hill then won TEN matches in a row to meet up the Stevie Collins in the Semi-Final match.   Stevie would win 7-3 to find a spot in the finals, but a HUGE congrats to Gerardo for his fine play all weekend.  Denny Sneed placed high again in the Omega with a 4th place finish, with David Josephson and Anthony Schaeffer both placed their highest finish with 5th/6th places out of 88 players.  Special shout out to George Merchan for placing 7th/8th (his highest finish to date) and to Ian Perez for his 9th place finish in his first Omega Tour event.

The finals were a tough, tough battle between Stevie Collins and Crispian Ng.  Crispian is a BCAPL Nationals 9-Ball Champion and Stevie Collins is also a top player (and this was his home pool room).  Both players wanted the win badly and it showed. First set went a thrilling hill-hill with Stevie never giving up, forcing a second set.  Then the second set went hill-hill again!  Stevie continued his great play and ran out 7 balls to win the game, the match, the finals, and the tournament!  His first Omega Billiards Tour win!  Congratulations also to Crispian for fighting hard all weekend for his second place finish.  He’s always hard on himself, but he played so good all weekend and deserves lots of kudos as well.

Congrats to ALL the players and fans for a great event!

Nick Conner Captures Second Omega Billiard

Denny Sneed, Nick Conner, and Tony Sulsar

On the weekend of September 6-7, Nick Conner dominated the field of 81 players and won first place again on the Omega Billiards Tour!  Clicks Billiards in Arlington, TX was the awesome host for the event and everyone had a great time watching and playing good pool all weekend.  This was the 6th stop of the Omega Billiards Tour this year and $1,500 was added again to the prize fund.

Nick Conner placed 2nd at the previous stop in August and 1st at the June event.  So, with September’s win, Nick has pretty much sealed his first place in the Predator Player Points Tracker for the end of the year Rankings!

After a first round bye, Nick defeated David Franklin 7-1, David Josephson 7-1, Juan Parra 7-2, Tony Sulsar 7-5 and then Keith Aikens 7-1 to seal his spot to play in the hotseat against Denny Sneed, whom he defeated 7-2.
Denny Sneed from Midland, Odessa was the farthest traveler and he had his best tournament yet!  He had wins over David Cowell 7-3, hill-hill over Daniel Herring, Cody Wright 7-5, and then stomped local favorite Dylan Weinheimer 7-0.

Last year’s Tour Champion, Tony Sulsar, after his loss to Nick, went on a tear on the one-loss side with wins over Cody Wright 8-5, Jesse Hernandez 8-0, and Dylan Weinheimer 8-1.  Daniel Herring got close to stopping Tony but at hill-hill, Tony prevailed over another match to keep going.

Tony then defeated Denny Sneed 8-1, giving Denny his highest finish yet at 3rd place!

This lead to Tony and Nick battling it out in the finals.  It was close all the way with GREAT play as usual from these two fantastic players but Nick prevailed 7-4 to capture his second First Place win on the Omega Tour!  Nick earned $925 for first place, Tony earned $530 and Denny nabbed $400.

Big shout out to Keith Aikens for a great 5th place finish and Casey Calame for an awesome 7th place – their highest finishes yet on the Omega Tour.

The whole tournament was a great display of talent!   Congratulations to ALL of the players for their fine play and great finishes!

This stop was especially sweet as Hall-of-Famer Buddy Hall was in attendance!  Buddy gladly posed with fans and gave autographs all day long.  It was a huge treat for the Omega Tour players to have Buddy Hall around all day Saturday.

The Predator Player Tracker is in full force and the top three players at the end of the year will win a plethora of awesome Predator Prizes!  Only 1 more stop to see who gets all the Predator products:   Currently Nick Conner is now in the top ranked spot, Crispian Ng is in second, and Tony Sulsar is in the third place ranking.  Further, fourth through eighth places at the end of the year rankings will each receive a free entry into the 2015 BCAPL Nationals!

A HUGE thank you goes out to Predator Cues, Poison Break Cues, BCAPL/CSI, and Lucasi and Players Cues.  We would also like to give a big thanks to our additional sponsors, Wallace Custom Cues, OB Cues, Irving Ink and Thread, Pro Billiard Service, AZBilliards.com, and BilliardsPress.com.

Tour Director Melinda Bailey would like to thank Clicks owners and staff for their awesome hospitality all weekend!  A big thank you also goes out to Michael Hoang, main sponsor of the Tour and owner of Omega Billiards Supply in Hurst, TX.  Michael and Omega Billiards Supply are well known for the huge booths at many of the large tournaments across the country.

The seventh stop of the Omega Billiards Tour will be held at Speeds Billiards in Arlington, Texas October 4-5, 2014.  Each stop is limited to 80 players (an increase from 64) and the monies guaranteed added has increased to $1,500 for each stop.  Pool is alive and thriving in Texas!!

Conner goes undefeated to win his first Omega Billiards Tour stop

Nick Conner

In the third stop on the Omega Billiards Tour in May, Crispian Ng sat in the hot seat, watching Tony Sulsar make a strong, loss-side bid to meet him in the finals. Ng turned him away in those finals to complete an undefeated run through the field. On the tour's fourth stop, on the weekend of June 14-15, it was Nick Conner, looking for his first win on the tour, who was sitting in the hot seat watching Ng make the strong, loss-side bid to hook up in the finals. Like Sulsar, a month earlier, Ng's bid to capture the event title was stopped by the man in the hot seat. The $1,500-added event drew 61 entrants to Rusty's Billiards in Fort Worth, TX.

Conner and Ng played twice, the first time in a winners' side semifinal, as Marc Brown squared off against Randy Larsen. Conner took the first of two against Ng 7-4, and in the hot seat match, faced Brown, who'd sent Larsen to the loss side 7-3. Conner took the hot seat with a 7-5 win over Brown and waited on Ng's return.

Over on the loss side, Larsen picked up Ricky Jarmillo, who'd given up only a single rack to Mitch Owen, and then barely survived a double hill battle against Daniel Herring. Ng drew David Josephson, who'd defeated Tony Sulsar 6-5 and Coleman Derryberry 6-4. Ng and Jarmillo advanced to the quarterfinals; Ng, 6-6 over Josephson, and Jarmillo 7-5 over Larsen.

Ng prevailed, double hill, in the quarterfinals over Jarmillo, and then earned his second shot at Conner, with a 7-4 win over Marc Brown in the semifinals. Conner stopped the loss-side run with a 7-3 victory over Ng in the finals to capture his first Omega Tour title.

Jersey Jack Lynch Nabs Top Spot at Omega Billiards Tour Second Stop of 2014

Jack Lynch

On the weekend of February 22-23, Jersey Jack Lynch claimed the top prize at the second stop of the 2014 Omega Billiards Tour at the Billiard Den in Richardson, TX.  Jersey captured that first place spot by winning through a tough field of 80 players!

Over $9,500 was given out in monies and prizes that weekend! (Tourney payouts + prizes + player’s auction.)

After a bye, Jersey defeated David Josephson 7-5, then end-of-season-champ, Anthony Shea 7-4, then Steve Raynes and Kenny Rowell 7-5 each to meet newcomer Frankie Juarbe.  Jersey would defeat Frankie hill-hill – another close match – to meet up with another newcomer to the tour, Steve Collins, in the hotseat

Steve Collins made his way to the hotseat with a first round bye, then wins over Jeff Georges 6-3, Linh Nguyen 6-2, Willie Speed 6-2 and then a nail biter 6-7 over David Gutierrez to meet Jersey in the hotseat match.

David G would go on the one-loss side and defeat birthday boy Steve Raynes 9-5, Frankie Juarbe 9-2 then Nick Conner 9-6.

Jersey was doing damage in the hotseat match and won over Steve Collins 7-2 which pitted Steve Collins and David against each other on the one-loss side for the semi-finals.  Steve Collins would win hill-hill (6-8) over David, which sealed Steve to play a re-match with Jersey Jack in the finals.

It was late in the night when the finals started and the first match would go hill-hill!  Steve would prevail over Jersey Jack in the first set hill-hill to force a second match in this true double elimination tournament.

Jersey wasn’t done though and made a comeback and prevailed with great play and a score of 7-3 to win his first Omega Tour stop!!

Jersey earned $925 for First Place and Steve Collins earned $530 for Second Place.  David had another great tourney placing 3rd and earned $400 and Nick Conner rounded out the top 4 with $340 for his fine play (payouts do not reflect the Player Auction).  Special mention to David “Doc” Reyes and Frankie Juarbe for placing their highest finish yet on the tour:  5th/6th!

Congratulations to ALL of the players for their fine play and great finishes!

On the weekend of December 14-15th, young gun Anthony Shea claimed the top prize on the newly inaugurated Omega Billiards Tour's Season Finale of 2013 at Rusty’s Billiards in Arlington, TX.  Anthony went undefeated to capture the first place prize, making him the youngest winner yet, at a mere 20 years old!

In the finals, it looked like it would be pushed to two sets, as Tony Sulsar was ahead 7-2.  But Anthony kept his composure and kept fighting back until the score was hill-hill.  Anthony broke, and then ran out for the win!  Hill-hill thriller and his FIRST Omega Billiards Tour title!!

Congratulations to ALL the players for their fine play and great finishes!

Tony Sulsar Makes it Two in a Row

Sky Massingill, Dylan Weinheimer and Tony Sulsar

On the weekend of June 22nd-23rd, Tony Sulsar claimed the top prize on the newly inaugurated Omega Billiards Tour's 4th stop of 2013 at Rusty’s Billiards in Fort Worth, TX.  Tony has now won his second Omega tournament in a row!  Over $8,000 was given out in monies and prizes this weekend! (Tourney payouts + prizes + player’s auction.)  Here is how it all went down….

At last month's tournament, Tony Sulsar went undefeated to win the tourney, but this time his road to the finals was derailed by a determined Sky Massingill which stopped Tony getting to the hotseat match undefeated.  Sky would have a fabulous tournament defeating William Howard, Adam Pontious, Charlie Smith, Willy Orozco, and then Tony to meet local Dylan Weinheimer in the hotseat.  Dylan, who is a beast on the table, proved that easily by winning over Sam Hargrove, Vince Miller, the always formidable Greg Sandifer, consistent Mike Voelkering, and David Josephson.  He then prevailed with a hill-hill win over Sky in the rocking chair to have a seat in the finals.

Tony would make an impact on the one-loss side by first defeating the talented Barry Emerson hill-hill, Curtis Cardwell, and then Sky to secure his spot in the finals.  Brian Anderson and Greg Sandifer both placed 7th/8th and had a great tournament.  Barry and David Josephson would place an impressive 5th/6th (their highest finish yet) and Curtis had a fantastic event placing 4th!  Sky would also have his highest finish to date placing 3rd and we know he will be in the winner’s circle soon on the Omega Tour.

In the finals, Dylan and Tony had their work cut out for them.  On this handicapped tour, they both race to 8 (the handicaps range from 5 to 9) and the fans were in for a treat as both players performed very well with their smooth strokes and excellent cue ball control!  One could not help but improve their game just by watching these two players.  The first set was a nail biter and went hill-hill.  The second set was not as close, but still fantastic play with Tony coming out on top and winning 8-4.  Dylan placed an impressive 2nd place while Tony captured the first place monies, including a beautiful Lucasi Hybrid cue.  Tony’s long day came to an end around midnight after capturing the coveted 1st place crown.  A BIG congrats to all the players!  There were several new faces and numerous high finishes for the tour’s regulars.

The Predator Player Points Tracker will be tested for only two more stops to see who wins the coveted Predator prizes at the end of the year!  Tony Sulsar now sits in 1st place, with Crispian Ng in 2nd and Jesse Hernandez in 3rd.  The top 3 ranked players earn Predator Prizes at the end of the year and everyone is anxious and ready to place higher and higher in the stops to move up on the list!  CSI / BCAPL are giving free entries to the 2014 BCAPL Nationals for players ranked 4th-8th at the end of the year, also.  Thank you to our additional sponsors, OB Cues, Irving Ink and Thread, Lucasi Cues, Players Cues, AZBilliards.com, and BilliardsPress.com.

Tour Directors Melinda Bailey and Brian Anderson would like to thank Rusty’s Billiards and their awesome staff for their great hospitality all weekend!  A big thank you also goes out to Michael Hoang, who is the main sponsor of the Tour and owner of Omega Billiards Supply in Hurst, TX.  Michael and Omega Billiards supply are well known for the huge booths at many of the large tournaments across the country. The next (fifth) stop on the Omega Billiards Tour is scheduled for August 3-4 at Clicks Billiards in Arlington, TX.  All of the six events for 2013 on the Omega Billiard Tour's inaugural season have been filled to their 64-player capacity, with a 50+ waiting list!  Pool is alive and thriving in Texas!!

Thank you to all the players, fans, sponsors and pool rooms!!!
