Therrien goes undefeated to win Lucasi Hybrid NE 9-Ball stop
Steve Therrien stopped a three-match, loss-side challenge by Austin Roberts to go undefeated at a stop on the Lucasi Hybrid New England 9-Ball Tour, on Sunday, April 22. The event drew 20 entrants to Legends Billiards in Portsmouth, NH.
Therrien and Roberts were among the winner’s side final four, but didn’t face each other. Therrien took on Steve Kaptan, while Roberts battled Jason Deangelo. It was Therrien and Deangelo advancing to the hot seat battle; Therrien with a 7-3 win over Kaptan, and Deangelo, 5-3 over Roberts. Therrien then sent Deangelo to the semifinals, 7-2, and waited in the hot seat for Roberts.
Roberts moved over to meet Will McDonald, who’d defeated Sara Kaplin 6-2 and Charlie Matarazzo 5-2. Kaptan picked up Jeff Scott, who’d given up only two racks, total, defeating Patty Jackson and Randy Marcotte (sp?). Roberts and Kaptan returned to their winning ways immediately, downing McDonald and Scott, both 6-2.
Roberts used two straight 6-3 victories, over Kaptan in the quarterfinals and Deangelo in the semifinals, to complete his loss-side trip and face Therrien in the finals. Therrien completed his undefeated day with a 7-3 victory that captured the event title.
