Josh Farris Wins Mezz LA 9-Ball Series Season Opener

Josh Farris

The Season Opener for the Mezz LA 9 Ball Series was held on Sunday, January 2nd and was a success! It was a great way to kick off 2022 – we had a full field of 32 players who battled for cash, points and prizes in an exciting Fargo handicapped 9 ball format at LA’s newest pool hall: Gladi8or Pizza & Billiards.

The winner’s side of the field saw advancements by Rhino Lay (561), Chris Wedekind (640), Tony Garcia (600), and Geno Cardenaz (584). Tony reached the hot seat after defeating Chris 6-4. The loser’s side featured strong showings by Kevin Nakamura (623), Gigi Callejas (554), and Johnny Tang (599).

The real story was the incredible comeback by Josh Farris (668) who lost 6-3 in the first round to Rogeur Habachiy (632), but went on an 8-game winning streak on the loser’s side (including a hill-hill win over tournament director Rudy Torres). He went on to win the tournament with an 11-8 victory over Tony in an extended race final. A great showing by both players who battled all day for an event with over $1700 in cash and prizes!

A big congrats also to Justin Mccown who won 2 raffles: the first Break&Run Raffle for FREE entry to the February event, AND the Holly Cases raffle. Also to Geno Cardenaz who won the second Break&Run Raffle for a $50 gift card to Jam Up Apparel. Thanks to all who participated in these raffles!

Lastly, we would like to thank all our sponsors for their support of this series which promises to build up to a great Finale in December: Mezz Cues, ZAN Tips, Turtle Rack, Holly Cases, Salotto App, Jam Up Apparel, fast&loose designs, and the BCA Pool League.
