The Chicagoland TAP Story

TAP Nat'l 8-Ball Champs FA Cues

Chicagoland TAP, an amateur pool league, was established in July 2012 by Jemal Elmore. Its mission is to:

Promote integrity, honesty and fair play in amateur completion
Encourage growth in the sport of amateur pool
Provide an opportunity for amateur world-class play
Bring respect to the game of amateur pool
Create an amateur pool league for the player

The Chicagoland TAP franchise operates in the following Illinois territories: North Cook, South Cook, Will, Kankakee, and East Kane County, West DuPage (including Villa Park & Lombard), and Kendall counties. In addition, Chicagoland TAP also operates in Lake County in Indiana.

The goal of Chicagoland TAP League is to provide opportunities pool aficionados are unlikely to find with other pool league franchises. The differentiator for the Chicagoland TAP franchise is the combination of prizes being offered. These include: a 25-point handicap system; play no slop; cash at the end of the season; trophies at the end of the season; patches throughout the season; ability to earn a free trip to the national tournament; ability to play at the national tournament even if you go on your own.

Although Chicagoland TAP franchise is a league member of the TAP national organization, it has the liberty to establish opportunities that focus on the needs of the local participants. Other leagues hold their tournaments in Las Vegas every year; however, as an added perk, the TAP national organization holds its annual national tournament in different cities across the country. The 2013 nationals were held in St. Charles, IL; the 2014 nationals are scheduled to be held in Dallas, TX and the 2015 nationals will be held in Nashville, TN. The Chicagoland TAP franchise is an active participant in the national tournaments and is a local title holder, having had a team qualify for the tournament and win during its first established year.

Chicagoland TAP has three sessions each year as follows:

Session 1 – Early June to late September – 14 weeks plus 2 rounds of playoffs
Session 2 – Late September to late January – 16 weeks plus 2 rounds of playoffs
Session 3 – Late January to early June – 16 weeks plus 2 rounds of playoffs

Cash tournaments called the Titleholder are held at the end of each session and the national qualifying tournament is held annually during the summer.

In Chicagoland TAP’s first participation in the TAP National Championships which was held in Chicago, IL in November 2013 had a team from its area called FA Cues win the  8-Ball Team Championships.  There were also several teams who performed well in the National Dream Team Championships which ran simultaneously with the National Team Championships.  The results for those teams that played on a 64 team boards:

1. Bus Boyz - 3rd - 4th Place

2. Chi-Town Hustlers - 5th - 8th Place

3. We’re Done Talking - 9th - 16th

4. Rambow Connection - 17th – 32nd Place
