Ty Few and T Pet take down Texas Amateur Tour Event at Bogies

Ricky Hughes, Roy Payton and Ty Few

Bogies Billiards in Houston,Texas drew 69 players in for the Texas Amateur Tour event held over the weekend of November 27/28. The event had a $950 added prize pool in all. We had players from Dallas, Victoria, Angleton, New Iberia, and Lafayette, as well as Houston.

Things kicked off Saturday with 61 players in the amateur mixed division and was played down to the final 16 whom would come back Sunday to fight it out for the cash. The event saw plenty of upsets and at the end of the day the winners side final 8 looked like this, Alex Cardenas vs. Roy Payton , Jose Delacruz vs. Doug Schexnayder, Ty Few vs. Grady Cooper , and Leroy Hawkins vs. Danny Roland. On the one-loss side we had Rodney Stewart vs. Jim Walker, Ricky Hughes vs. Will Felder, David Taylor vs. Bobby Gonzales, and Carl Miranda vs. Sonny Bosshamer.

Sunday saw Roy Payton beat Alex Cardenas 11-5, then knock off Jose Delacruz 11-4 to get into the hotseat match. His opponent would be Ty Few who had a drama filled path to get there as he won two hill-hill matches. He first got by Grady Cooper 11-10, then by Leroy Hawkins 11-10. So then Payton and Few squared off after a few hours of sitting around, and what would you think was gonna happen with Ty Few involved? Well it was another hill-hill match and Ty escaped again.

The one-loss side saw some amazing runs of their own. On one side of the bracket Sonny Bosshamer who lost his first match won 8 matches in a row, eliminating E.J. Sanders, Eric Gauthier, Bill Fain, Joey Torres, Carl Miranda 9-4, Doug Schexnayder 9-6, Bobby Gonzales 9-5, Leroy Hawkins 9-5, then he met Ricky Hughes. Hughes had been doing damage of his own on the opposite side as he lost his second round match and won seven in a row to meet up with Sonny and play for the right to play Payton. Well Ricky got the best of this match 9-7. Then Ricky took his best shot at Roy Payton, but Roy was firing on all cylinders and got the nod 9-6, and a chance at Ty Few again. The final match was the only match that Ty did not make let his opponent get to the hill all day as Ty took it 11-5 and his first title. Congrats to both Ty and Roy for some great shooting.

We also had a ladies open event, it drew only 8 players but it was a real slug fest. With two former WPBA players attending in Ming Ng and Deanna Kniola. Also we had the mother-daughter duo of Terry ”T-Pet” Petrosino and Robyn “R-Pet” Petrosino, as well as Yvette Reyes, Courtney Peters, Ricki Casper, and Angela Martinez. It came down to Ming and Terry in the hot seat match where Ming won handily. So Terry headed to the one loss side and waited for her next match and it would be Deanna coming thru after losing her first match of the day. Terry got the nod here and a chance at Ming a second time. This time around T-Pet got a quick start and won the first set to have a shot at the second set in the true double elimination. Well T-Pet was not to be denied on this day as she kept rolling and she took set two as well and was the latest winner at the Texas Amateur Tour.
