Vines/Champion Share One Pocket Victory at Dot's Cue Club

The weekend of September 22-23, 2007 offered an opportunity for players throughout the mid-Atlantic region, including Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia to participate in a continually growing open one-pocket event at Dot's Cue Club in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

This event sported our strongest field yet and provided fans with plenty of great match-ups to watch during the two days. Local player Ray Vines made it to the winner's bracket finals against Michael Newsome who traveled all the way from Martinez, Georgia for this event. After getting a bye in the first round, Ray won sets against Steven Page (3-2), Jerry McLeod (3-1) and Danny Pollard (3-1) to get to the finals. Michael's road to the finals went through “Cadillac Ed” (3-1) who came down from Maryland, Wade Crane (3-2), and Brian White (3-1) from Greenville, SC to earn his spot in the winner's finals.

The winner's bracket final was all it was cracked up to be and turned out to be the best-played match of the weekend. After Michael Newsome went up 2 games to none, Ray Vines came storming back and won the hard fought set 3-2 to get in the hot seat.

In the loser's bracket, Sydney Champion, of Goldsboro North Carolina, defeated Brian White (3-2) to earn a spot in the one-loss finals against Michael Newsome. Sydney also won that match 3-2 to win a meeting with Ray Vines in the finals. However, both players decided to split the pot in lieu of battling out this true double elimination event.

Thanks to everyone who participated and made the weekend a success.
