Corr goes undefeated to win fourth JPNEWT stop

Karen Corr
Karen Corr has won every stop on the J. Pechauer Northeast Women's Tour that she has entered. In her absence, on the weekend of June 21-22, Jia Li slipped in a victory. On the weekend of August 9-10, during the fifth stop on the tour, Jia Li challenged Corr in the both the winners' side semifinals and finals. In the end, though, Corr chalked up her fourth tour victory. The $1,000-added ($500 from Coins of the Realm) event drew 30 entrants to Triple Nines in Elkridge, MD.

Corr and Li met first in the winners' side semifinal, as Nicole Monaco faced Meredith Lynch. Monaco shut Lynch out to meet Corr, who had defeated Li 7-2. Corr took the hot seat match 7-4 and waited on Li's return.

On the loss side, Li arrived to face tour director Linda Shea, who had defeated Kim Whitman 7-3 and Dawn Fox 7-2, to reach her. Lynch drew Kathy Friend, who had defeated Charlyn Dzambo 7-3 and shut out Denise Reeve. Li eliminated Shea 7-2, as Lynch was busy giving up only a single rack to Friend.

Li took the quarterfinals versus Lynch and the semifinals against Monaco 7-4. Corr, though, put a stop to Li's three-match, loss-side run with her own 7-4 win to claim the event title.
