2007 Carolina Open Nine-Ball Event Moving Along

Mike Davis

The one-pocket event at Fast Eddie's Sports Bar and Grill in Goldsboro, North Carolina, has kept the attention of the spectators for the past couple of days, but today, the focus will change to nine-ball. The nine-ball event got a running start with a total of seventy-four players, including Johnny Archer, and many of the same guys that started the week with a great warm-up while playing their one-pocket matches, such as Gabe Owen, Mike Davis, Robb Saez, Sparky Ferrell, Rafael Martinez, Shaun Wilkie, and Shannon Daulton.

The final three competitors from the one-pocket event are also trying to make their mark by throwing their names in the hat for the nine-ball race, Earl “The Pearl” Strickland, Larry Nevel, and Richie Richeson.

There were no seeded matches, but other than an initial match between Gabe Owen and Mike Davis (Davis defeated Owen), the notable names have not run into each other. Davis must have drawn the short stick of the tournament because his next opponent ended up being Earl Strickland. At this time, the remainder of the field are making their way through the brackets - we will have updates for you on great match-ups at the end of the day, along with the results from the one-pocket semi and final rounds.

Just a reminder for those of you in the area, the one-pocket event will finish up at 7:00 p.m. this evening – Richie Richeson will match-up against Larry Nevel in the semi-final round, while Earl Strickland waits for his chance at the title at 9:00 p.m.
