Pool world loses Fanon Sluisdom

Myself, Jay Helfert and Fanon Sluisdom

Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the World Pool Championship held in the Philippines. For nine days, I was able to watch some of the best 9-ball players in the world compete for the biggest purse of the year.

In addition to the great pool on display, I also worked very closely with fellow members of the Billiards media for the duration of the event. One of those people was a gentleman from the Netherlands by the name of Fanon Sluisdom. Fanon was there representing another website, but we freely shared photos and video footage with each other to enhance each other's coverage of the event. We only worked together for that week, but I truly enjoyed the experience and looked forward to working with Fanon in the future.

I was notified this week however, that Fanon was involved in an automobile accident last Friday and was killed.

While members of the billiards community worldwide have lost a true supporter of the game, members of the dutch billiard world have lost a player and friend.

My condolences and thoughts go out to Fanon's family and friend in the Netherlands. More information on Fanon can be found at www.poolkrant.nl.
