"The Iceman" Mika Immonen might have braved the Arizona heat to take the hot-seat at the UPA Desert Shootout, but Mika quickly learned that it is hard to keep a good Scorpion down.
Johnny Archer bounced back from his loss to Immonen in the hotseat match and defeated Mike Davis on the one loss side to earn another shot at Immonen in the true double elimination finals.
Archer made quick work of Immonen in the first set of the finals and scored a 9-2 win, forcing a second set to determine the event winner.
The second set was much more competitive, but still led to the same result. Archer scored a 9-5 win to earn the $12,500 first prize. Immonen settled for $7,500 in second place prize money.
Tournament organizers wanted to express their gratitude to the owners of Kolby's for coming to the rescue and hosting this event on such short notice. They also wanted to thank Jay Helfert for running such a great event and the packed crowds that were at Kolby's each day for making this event a very memorable one.
