Allison Fisher wins KWIKFIRE Tour stop

Allison Fisher

Last weekend saw the 3rd stop on The KWIKFIRE Tour calendar at The Smokin Cue in Charlotte and although the field was a little less than previous events the competition was still fierce.  There were no real upsets early on but APA member Linsday Gebel lost narrowly to Pro Val Finnie 7 to 5.  Val commented that Lindsay played brilliantly and it could have gone hill hill.   Another close match was between seed Kim Shaw  and Terry Faulk.  Kim said Terri showed the sort of play that earned her victory over Monica Webb in the last event and that she was relieved to scrape through.

SUNDAY
A side
Allison Fisher 9  vs  Katie Cowan 1  and  Kelly Fisher 9 vs Kim Shaw 5
B side
Val Finnie 7 vs Lisa Cossette 2  and Gerda Hofstater 9 vs Terry Faulk 1

The final 4 saw Gerda Hofsatter and Kim Shaw  on the B side and for the 3rd straight time, Kelly and Allison fighting it out for the hot seat.

Gerda and Kim had met twice before on the KWIKFIRE Tour with Gerda having a  2- 0 lead but with Kim's consistent play and Gerda a touch unfortunate Kim came out the victor 9 to 5.

Kelly and Allison were neck and neck and as usual nothing between them until the 15th rack when Allison took the lead and the win 9 to 7.

Kelly had put Kim over to the B side earlier in the day but that didn't stop Kim from producing some solid pool and getting revenge with a 9 to 5 win.

The final was all Allison until Kim threatened to eat someone's hat if Allison got out of, what everyone thought, was an impossible snooker.  Allison then hit the impossible shot and kindly offered Kim some salt and pepper but Kim insisted on ketchup.   Allison was her usual steady self and won the match 9 to 5.

It was an extra special occasion because donation were made for Michaela Pittman who is a young girl and has recently been diagnosed with dermatomyositis which is a rare disease affecting only 5,000 kids nationwide

We were able to raise just over $1200 through generous cash donations from players and fans, while KwikFire, Kelly Fisher, and Allison Fisher donated products and all proceeds went to benefit Michaela.  Michaela's family lost her health insurance a couple months ago and needed to raise $1400 to help pay for back medical bills before Medicaid kicks in.  The Kwikfire Tour will continue the benefit through next weekend at Mr. Cues -- All the money raised will be given to Michaela and her family to help with bills and hopefully bring some extra money for the holidays.  If you're interested in donating, please email kristi@kwikfiretour.com.

Other congratulations go to Katie Cowan who with a 5th place finish was the highest APA finisher and Lisa Davids who defeated Terry Faulk  to win the second chance tournament.

Many thanks go to Matt Riggs of The Smokin Cue for hosting and sponsoring the event,  our title sponsor KWIKFIRE Cues, our trophy sponsor Blue Moon Custom Awards and Charlotte Metro APA.

The next stop on the KWIKFIRE Tour calendar is Dec 12th 13th at Mr Cues, Atlanta, GA.
