Briseno is still keeping the heat on in the desert

Gus Briseno extended his lead in the point standings with his second consecutive victory on the Arizona Desert Classic Tour this past weekend. This stop called for 10-Ball on fast-rolling bar tables at the spacious and gracious Bull Shooters in Phoenix.

Gus came out with his gun ablazin’ amidst a field full of other sharpshooters, as he shot his way undefeated to the finals, where he met and outgunned young Bobby Emmons by the score of 13-10.  Those mowed down by Briseno, in order, were:  Lisa Rosenthall, Frank Guntan, Bob Mizer, George Ramirez, Mitch Ellerman, and then Emmons in the one-set finale.

Bobby Emmons came out in similar fashion with quick wins over Charlie Heun and Roger Long, before being dispatched to the one-loss side by one of the best in the west, Mitch Ellerman. Undaunted by that temporary set-back, Emmons continued with his aggressive style of play and sent home Mike Pankoff, Scott Frost, and George Ramirez, to set up the rematch with Ellerman, which would send him on to his ill-fated meeting with Briseno.

With two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in four outings on the DCT this year, Gus Briseno has demonstrated his dominance over the other players thus far, but everyone should keep an eye on Bobby Emmons. He’s young, talented, and knows no fear.

The next stop on the DCT will be July 11-12 and will feature 9-Ball on 7ft. tables at Metro Sportz Bar in Phoenix.
