Collado and McKinn win ACUI Collegiate Titles

The 2007 ACUI Collegiate Championships are complete and Eleanor Collado from San Francisco State University has earned her fourth ACUI title.

Collado ran into sister Emilyn in the 3rd round this year and escaped with a 7-6 win. Eleanor did not fare as well in her next match as she fell to Elizabeth Zingale from Florida State University.

Zingale went on to defeat Mili Kozomara from Northern Illinois University for the hot-seat.

On the one loss side, Eleanor Collado scored a 7-5 win over Amy Chen and then a 7-2 win over sister Emilyn. A 7-4 win over Kozomara earned Collado another shot at Zingale in the true double elimination finals.

The first set went to Collado 7-2 and the second set also went to Collado 7-5 for a record breaking four ACUI titles for Collado.

The Men's division featured another player shooting for four titles. Lars Vardeman from Southern Illinois University came in to the event as the three time champion but a fourth title would prove to be out of his reach.

Vardeman dropped a second round match to Kyle Boers from the University of Wisconsin. Vardeman defeated Brian Williams on the one loss side, but then had his tournament brought to an early end by David Allen from the University of Maryland.

Meanwhile, the winners side saw Andrew McKinn from California State University, LA take the hot-seat with a 7-5 win over Brian Deska from the University of Maryland.

On the one loss side, Deska lost to Ryan Balks from Michigan State 7-5.

The first match of the true double elimination finals went to Balks by the score of 7-4, but McKinn came back to win the second set 7-3 to earn his first ACUI Collegiate title.
