Downingtown’s Joe DiPietro Wins NE Players Tour

Hello pool fans! It's time again to report the exciting never-ending action of the NE Players Tour Open 9-Ball Events. Tour stop #14 this past Sunday was held at American Billiards in Quakertown Pennsylvania. The starting roster included the likes of Josh Brothers, Carmen Lombardo, Eddie Abraham, Phil Sherman, Mike Davis, and many other talented players who traveled from four northeastern states. Lets kick it off by congratulating fifth place finisher Mike Dever who cashed on his first tour appearance. Another mention goes out to Adam Kielar who finished fifth. What is remarkable is that Adam has only been playing this sport for one year. It is also good to see Mark Light and Doc Anthony stroking the ball well.

Many good players were nipped out in the early rounds. Most matches were either hill-to-hill or 6-4. The format of races to six and alternating breaks have given most players a fighting chance to win! This is a proven fact throughout the year, as we have had fourteen events with eleven different winners. No one player has yet to dominate!

Matt Krah from Newark Delaware finished fourth. Matt had an excellent performance throughout the day! Mike Davis from Frederick Maryland suffered an early round loss. In the one-loss bracket, Mike won six straight matches to finish third. This left two players remaining. Lee Holt from Clayton Delaware and Joe DiPietro from Downingtown Pennsylvania. Joe DiPietro took an early lead 2-0 only to see Lee Holt tie the score 2-2. As the match neared the midway point, the twelfth game would be the deciding factor. Attempting to tie the score at 6 each, Lee Holt unfortunately missed a key opportunity. Joe DiPietro showed relentless concentration and Championship experience throughout the event. Exploiting every opportunity he was presented, Joe DiPietro was the 9-5 winner and the new tournament champion of the NE Players Tour.

Joe DiPietro has been playing pool for over twenty-five years. A Native to Downingtown Pennsylvania, he won his first major tournament in 1980 at the Junior World Open. Other achievements came later in his pool playing days. Some of the prestigious titles were the PA State 8-Ball Championship and the Delaware State 9-Ball Championship. On the seven foot bar box tables his play is legendary as he has won many individual and team events. Congratulations on your recent win at the NE Players Tour Open and in the near future!

Next open 9-ball event is at The Green Room Billiards in Maple Shades, New Jersey on Sunday November 16th. This field is limited to 48 players. Early registration only through e-mail at neplayerstour@nni.com See you there for the "Best Time Ever"!
