During the EPBF gala dinner at this year’s Anniversary European Championships festival in Veldhoven, The Netherlands, the EPBF awarded Jorgen Sandman for his outstanding work and efforts he dedicated for the sports of billiards.

His service for European pool started in the 1980’s. He became a board member of the EPBF back then and together with the then President Horst Vondenhoff founded the World governing body for pool, the World Pool-Billiard Association WPA as one of the European representatives.

Sandman was the President of the WPA from 1993 to 1999 and also presided the World Confederation of Billiard Sports. He was probably the main force in striving for the Olympic recognition in that time. When the outright recognition finally was given to the WCBS on February 5th, 1998, Sandman was the President of the WCBS and the WPA.

Sandman’s special merits for European pool billiards are the reason why the Board of the EPBF found it due to award this very special honour on Sandman. „It is an honour and a privilege for me to grant this award to Jorgen,“ stated Gre Leenders, the President of the EPBF, „he is an asset to the World of Pool and it is always good to being able to ask Jorgen for his opinion since his experience is second to none“, Leenders added.
