Frost wins Desert Classic Bar Table 8-Ball Event

The Desert Classic Tour held their second event of the season with a field of 51 players playing eight-ball on the Diamond Bar Tables at Stingers in Phoenix, Arizona. The new handicapped format appears to be a hit with the B and C players as they came out in droves at this event.

The winners side came down to two familiar opponents though, as "The Freezer" Scott Frost faced off against tour director Dennis Orender for the hot-seat. With Frost being one of only two "A+" players in Arizona, he would have to win 10 games before Orender won eight. That was no problem for Frost as he won the match 10-3.

On the one loss side, Orender found Susan Williams waiting. Williams had lost a match to local young gun Nick Deleon, but had come back with six straight wins on the left side of the board. Those wins included impressive victories over Jose Gonazalez, Deleon and Tres Kane. Those wins would have to suffice for Williams on this day as she lost to Orender 7-3 and settled for third place.

The true double elimination finals saw Orender jump out to an early lead in the first set and cruise to an 8-2 win forcing a second set to determine the final winner. Orender quickly discovered that beating Scott Frost twice in a row is a lot tougher than beating him one. Frost scored a decisive 9-3 win for first place.

The tour will be back in action on March 20 - 21 at Bullshooters in Phoenix for a B/C only 9-ball event on the bar tables. With the large B/C turnout at this week's event, look for an even larger field in two weeks.
