Gerda over Tiffany for Paradise Billiards Sunday Break

Gerda Hofstatter and Tiffany Nelson

With the WPBA getting back in action this week, some of the ladies were using the Paradise Billiards Sunday Break tournament in Charlotte, NC as a last minute warm up.

Although the field only included six ladies, two of them made it to the final four on the winners side. Those matches saw Gerda Hofstatter defeat Arthur Rosen 7-3 and Dean Welch defeat Tiffany Nelson 7-3.

Both Rosen and Nelson bounced back from those losses in their next matches as Rosen eliminated David Seeley 5-2 and Nelson upended Mike Davis 5-4. Nelson then ended Rosen's run with a 5-1 scoreline.

On the right side of the board, Hofstetter took the hot-seat with a 7-4 win over Dean Welch. Welch then found himself on the wrong side of a 5-2 match with Nelson.

This left Gerda and Tiffany fighting it out for the win in one race to eight. Gerda came out strong and took a quick 3-0 lead, Tiffany made a comeback, but the closest she could get was 5-4 down before Gerda ran away to the 8-4 win.

Hofstatter earned $380 for first, while Nelson took home $210 for second.

Hofstatter had a chance to really cash in, as her ticket was drawn in the weekly Big Rack contest where one player gets a chance to break and run a rack of 10-ball. The prize fund is up to $443, but Gerda scratched on the break and the prize remains unclaimed for another week.
