Day one is complete at the SML Entertainment 9-Ball championship, and while there were no real upsets, Edmontonian Mike Yancowski almost pulled off the upset of the year as he went hill-hill with reigning World Champion Alex Pagulayan before Pagulayan won the case game to advance.
Other top seeds Johnny Archer, Earl Strickland, Danny Basavich, Corey Deuel, Edwin Montal, Erik Hjorleifson and Luc Salvas advanced with very little problem.
In a marquee matchup on Wednesday, Deuel will face Canadian Danny Hewitt.
