Monday Takes Fury Finale in Virginia

The Fury Tidewater finale finished a successful season with its $1000 added finale on December 4, 2004 held at Q Masters Billiards in Virginia Beach, VA.

In the winner's side quarterfinal, Sam Monday won over Rick Zeiner 7-3, and Eric Moore posted a 7-0 win over Junior Jones to set up a tight match between Monday and Moore for the hotseat. After trading racks, Monday moved ahead to get on the hill at 6-5, but then played a failed safe and Moore took the run out to go hill-hill. Moore then capitalized on the break and ran out to secure his spot in the final.

This sent Monday to the left side to wait for the winner of Zeiner and 14-year-old Curtis Coleman. Zeiner took off in a 4-0 lead in the race to five but that didn't seem to deter young Coleman as he fired back with three games in a row to bring the score to 4-3. Zeiner then got an opportunity in the next rack and closed the match at 5-3 and sent Coleman home with 4th place. Zeiner was also on his way home when he met Monday in the semifinals and was bested 5-1, settling for 3rd.

The rematch in the finals between Monday and Moore promised to be as close as the first. Monday took off for a 4-0 lead but this didn't cushion him by much as Moore took the next five games in his favor to make it 5-4. The players pulled to 7-7 in the race to 9 and it could have gone either way. The deciding moment came when Moore failed to make a ball on his break and was sent to his seat to watch Monday run out, followed by a break and run in the final game for a 9-7 victory.
