NC Players Shoot for a Cause at Brown’s Billiards of Raleigh

While pool might be shrinking elsewhere, the tide is turning in North Carolina and Brown's Billiards of Raleigh (located at 5500-107 Atlantic Springs Rd, Raleigh NC 27616) is riding high.  Under new management Brown's Billiards has updated its previously drab décor and slim roster of events to include a full schedule of small, medium, and large events for all levels of players with entry fees starting at just $15.  Most recently Brown's Billiards held the first of what is hoped to be an annual event, the Bankroll 8-Ball Challenge to Benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Working in partnership with Raleigh-based Jester Media, Brown's Billiards raised $200 for Habitat for Humanity of Wake County.  The Challenge attracted twenty players and three times as many spectators.  Spectator turnout was no doubt aided by the appearance of Hooters Girls offering free wings.  Generous sponsors included Rock-n-Roll Tattoo and Predator Cues.  Predator provided cues for raffle from their new Poison line of sharp looking, solid hitting sticks.  Other sponsors included Olive Garden, Perkins, and IHOP providing gift coupons for giveaways throughout the event.

The event, which lasted most of Saturday, August 30, 2008, ended with a split pot between Johnny Kerr and Daniel Hill.  Charles M (last name not known) took third.  Entry for the event was $50 with discounts for early registration.

Brown's Billiards of Raleigh has been a North Carolina fixture for over a decade but it's only recently that David Huffman and Marc Lancaster took over and embarked upon a far reaching schedule of major upgrades.  Brown's Billiards holds ten 4.5' x 9' regulation tables including one Diamond with pockets tighter than a backer's wallet.  Future upgrades include a new sound system and a full kitchen.

Brown's Billiards of Raleigh regularly sends APA teams to Vegas and currently hosts league play four nights a week including 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and Masters.  Brown's offers free pool to service industry workers (check www.BrownsBilliardsofRaleigh.com for specific dates and times) and has a full bar with drink specials every night.  House pro and certified instructor Steve Lee offers private and group lessons on site.
