Ouschan Again Voted Sports Heroine

Jasmin Ouschan

The Austrian Sports Media has once again voted Jasmin Ouschan near the top of the Austrian sports notables of the year. This year Ms. Ouschan garnered an eighth-place finish and managed to receive ten first-place votes in the balloting that saw slightly more than 300 votes cast for sportsmen and women from all areas of sport. Ms. Ouschan had a dynamic 2008 that saw her reach the semi-finals of the World 14.1 Championship in an event where she defeated former World Champion Mika Immonen and defending champion Oliver Ortmann before bowing to Francisco Bustamante. She also finished third at the Women's World Championship and the GenerationPool.com championship (an event she won in 2006). She won the 2008 WPBA Carolina's Classic event. During the World 8-Ball Championship in Fujairah, UAE, she defeated Darren Appleton, the gentleman who later went on the win the World Ten Ball Championship in Manila.

Ms. Ouschan is quoted as saying that her goals are: "To be one of the best players in the world and also to try to challenge the best male players in the world." From her performance in 2008 it may be time to begin considering new goals since the current ones are now behind her at age 22.

The Austrian Sports Media this year chose Bronze Medal swimmer Mirna Jukic as their number one choice for females and ski jumper Thomas Morning Star as the number one male. The Springer National Ski-Jump Team took the honors amongst all teams across a wide spectrum of sports.
