South takes control at Patriot Cup

Allen Hopkins closed the night out with a win

At the half way point of the 2003 Patriot Cup at Planet 9-Ball in Tampa FL, Team South now holds a 7-4 lead in matches and a 31-26 lead in games.

Team South jumped out to a 3-1 lead, only to see the North Team come back and tie the score at 3-3 at the dinner break.

It was all Team South after the break however, as they took control and rattled off four straight match wins including a 4-0 win in the five-on-five scotch team match.

The team from the North was finally able to save face at the end of the night as Allen Hopkins defeated Nick Varner 2-0 in the one-pocket match that closed the night.

In the scoring system used for this event, a team must lead in both matches and games at the end of the event in order to win. If one team does not lead in both, then a sudden death tie-breaker will be played between the best shooters from each team.
