Stan James Day One Complete

John Morra

The young guns and the old guard are going head to head here in Montreal. One of those young guns is seventeen-year-old John Morra who joins Edwin Montal way out on the end of the winners bracket. Morra had an impressive day. He began his trek with a hill-hill win over Tino Barbiere, and then followed that with a 9-7 win over tour-ranked number two player Jeff Kennedy. Then Steve Chapman fell before him 9-4 before he beat legendary player Alain Martel 9-6 to claim his leg of the bracket.

Montal had an equally difficult journey. He first dusted Ryan Solleveld 9-0 in a match that saw Solleveld never have a good shot at a single ball. He then railroaded Jeff White 9-3 and bested John Morra's dad, Mario Morra, by the same score. His next opponent fared better, but Montal proved too powerful for Danny Hewitt as he took their match 9-8 to rest the night undefeated.

Still alive with one more barrel to fire are Kevin Cardinal, Erik Hjorleifson, Danny Hewitt, Mario Morra, Rod Cullier and Alain Martel. Play begins at Le Skratch Billiards and Bistro in Brossard Sunday at 11 AM. We will update the brackets after each round on Sunday.

Our thanks go out to tour sponsors Stan James Bookmakers, Canada Billiard and Bowling, Simonis Cloth, Aramith billiard balls, and Layani Cues.
