In the 9-ball individuals of the Dynamic Billard European Pool Championships 2018 at the NH Conference Centre Koningshof, Veldhoven, The Netherlands, many close results determined today’s matches.
In the round of the last 64 men single elimination, defending Champion Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) was ousted all of a sudden by unheralded Ferdi Ozdemir (TUR). The Turkish the went on and had a fierce fight with Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL) where he was defeated with 7:9. Other remarkable results from today’s 9-ball matches include Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) smashing Alexander Kazakis (GRE) with 9:2. The same result was good for Joshua Filler (GER) when he wiped the floor with Niels Feijen (NED). While Bijsterbosch had a nice and easy 9:5 victory over Dimitri Jungo (SUI) in the next round, Filler needed to sweat against Marek Hajdovsky (CZE). After 15 racks, Filler was up 8:7 and it was Hajdovsky’s break shot coming up. He successfully executed a good break but had no clear shot on the 1-ball. He needed to come up with a good push-out. He did and Filler gave the shot back to him. Hajdovky played a very good safety and put Filler under pressure with that. Filler managed to hit the 1-ball but left an open table for Hajdovsky. The Czech kept his nerves together and cleared the table, turning the match into a hill-hill affair with Filler having the break shot in the final rack. Filler had a ball down and a tough shot on the 1-ball in front of him. There were no clusters or anything on the table but in order to pocket the 1-ball, Filler needed to bridge over the 4-ball and elevate his bridge hand very much. Filler decided to play a safety in that situation which probably was the better choice. A safety battle occurred with both athletes playing brilliant safety shots. Eventually, Filler came up with a shot that forced Hajdivsky to commit a foul shot. With ball in hand, Filler ran the rack and won the match by a whisker with 9:8 over a worthy opponent.
The women’s division was also played down to the final 16 players. Defending Champion Kelly Fisher (GBR) could not be stopped so far. She wasted no time with Helena Benjamin (SWE) and eliminated her with 7:3 from the 9-ball individuals. She will face Melanie Suessenguth (GER) tomorrow had stood tall against her teammate Tina Vogelmann (GER) and won 7:3 today. Ana Gradisnik (SLO) took down Ina Kaplan (GER) and advanced to the round of the last 16 players with a 7:4 victory. Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) waltzed past Yini Gaspar (SUI) and handed her a doughnut with 7:0. Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) had a tough fight against Micha Beuriot (NED) and just made it over the finish line with 7:6.
Henrique Correia (POR), defending Champion in the senior’s division, is still alive in the 9-ball individuals. Though he had to take the detour over the loser’s side, he has ousted Piotr Kleinschmidt (POL) 7:0 and the Dirk Stenten (GER) in the single elimination round. Also Rustem Aygunlu (TUR) was no obstacle for Correia. The Portuguese won the match 8:2 and advanced into the round of the final 16 players.
Christoffer Lentz (DEN) and Ivan Galic (CRO) are probably the most promising athletes in the Under 17’s division. They are among the last 16 players of the field. Lentz took down Oskar Jamorski (POL) 7:3 while Galic made it with 7:2 over Sasu Hietamis (FIN). If they both win their next matches, they will have a showdown against one another in the quarter-finals.
In the Under 19’s, defending Champion Jan Van Lierop (NED) still stands tall and holds his position against all challengers so far. Today, his victim was German team Champion Alen Salic (GER) who lost with 5:8 to van Lierop. Sanjin Pehlivanovic (BIH) made a clear statement when he overran Ragnar Gronsten (SWE) with 8:1. Wiktor Zielinski (POL) had some more work to do but in the end also joined the athletes in the next round by beating Dmitrii Shkudov (RUS) with 8:6. Jonas Souto (ESP) came out strong in the heartbreaker against Egor Trifonov (RUS) which he managed to decide with 8:7 for himself.
The „newest“ division of the EPBF, the Under 23’s, was already played down to the last 12 players today. The biggest upset was the elimination of last year’s runner-up and #1 seeded player Pijus Labutis (LTU). He fell to the sharp blade of Matis Saetre (NOR) with 8:9. Already in the quarter-finals are Samuel Santos (POR), Mark Magi (EST), Spasian Spasov (BUL) and Casper Matikainen (FIN). Their opponents will be determined tomorrow morning in the first round at 09:30 CET.
In the girls’ division, the favourites are still in the race for the Gold Medal. Probably the best chances has Valeriia Trushevskaia (RUS). She has already booked her seat in the quarter-final match. Together with Viktoriia Gurova (RUS) she has a pretty good starting position. However, 10-ball Champion Nina Torvund (NOR) and 8-ball Champion Darya Siranchuk (UKR) are also fighting for a spot among the last eight athletes.
In the ladies’ division, 8-ball Champion Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) had to forfeit her match for professional reasons. Defending Champion Ine Helvik, who has already taken the crown in 10-ball this week and defended her title there, is in the quarter-final, waiting for her opponent to be decided tomorrow morning.
In the wheelchair division, defending Champion Jouni Tahti (FIN) is fighting his way through the loser’s side. He just made it over Emil Malanowski (POL) in the loser’s qualification round with 7:6.
The Dynamic Billard European Pool Championships 2018 will commence tomorrow morning at 09:30 CET with the matches from the 9-ball individuals competition. The finals are scheduled for 16:00 CET. From 14:00 CET, table 1 will be broadcasted LIVE through Ziggo Sports Channel, the biggest Dutch sports channel and will show one semi-final and the final match. The 8-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Pool Championships 2018 in NH Conference Centre in Veldhoven, The Netehrlands, have been decided. Germany turned out to be the big winner of the day, taking 3 titles and a total of 10 medals in that one day only. This performance catapults team Germany to the top of the medal table after three of five events.
In the men’s division, Bahram Lotfy (DEN) defeated Konrad Juszczyszyn (POL) 8:2 in the final match. Lotfy seemed to be on fire throughout the whole tournament. His victims on his way to the final match include Alex Lely (NED), Mario He (AUT), Alexander Kazakis (GRE) and in the semi-final Mieszko Fortunski (POL). This impressive list of players got ousted by Lofty who came to Veldhoven pretty unheralded and can be regarded as a real surprise winner. „I have been focussing a lot on my practice over the last year“, stated Lotfy after the final match. „I practice a lot with Niels (Feijen) and I also do mental training as in meditation“, Lotfy added. „I felt really comfortable throughout the whole competition and I’m looking forward to the 9-ball“.

In the women’s division, Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER) took the title in a final match against Tamara Peeters-Rademakers (NED) with 6:3. Ivanovskaia literally played against the whole arena since the audience was packed with Peeters’ friends, Family and supporters. But also the German contingency managed to make some noise during the final match. The match for Gold was decided by Ivanovskaia playing more solid than Peeters. The German was a bit unlucky on her break shot but she did not commit any mistakes during the racks. Peeters missed too many shots and especially positions which in the end cost her the match. „I had a tough match against Tamara“, said Ivanovskaia after the final, „I could really feel the pressure from the audience.“ „My toughest matches in the whole event probably was against Oliwia (Czuprynska). At hill-hill, she pocketed the 8-ball and scratched. I won that match on pure luck. Maybe that gave me extra strength against Jasmin (Ouschan) in the semi-final“. Tamara Peeters-Rademakers stated: „I committed too many mistakes in the final match. I had such a great support from everyone here but Veronika simply played better than me tonight“, admitted Peeters-Rademakers.

In the senior’s division, Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) claimed the title against Sandor Tot (HUN) in the final with 7:1. Two times already this week, Tot has been the final destination for Wirsbitzki. In straight pool in the quarter-final and in 10-ball in the round of the last 16 players, Tot eliminated Wirsbitzki. Today in the final match, Wirsbitzki wanted payback time. And he received his revenge on Tot. Wirsbitzki played extremely solid and thrashed Tot 7:1 in a single-sided final match. Wirsbitzki has been a constant gold medallist in previous years in the senior’s division, but his last title in the individuals is as far back as 2015 when he won the title in straight pool in Sankt Johann im Pongau in Austria.

In the „oldest“ division of the youth, the Under 23’s, Casper Matikainen (FIN) snatched the title with an 8:2 victory over Johannes Schmitt (GER). Matikainen pretty much dominated the Under 23 division since he eliminated most of the other favourite players one after the other. Kevin Schiller (GER), Vitaliy Patsura (UKR) and Samuel Santos (POR) are the guns Matikainen put to shame during the 8-ball individuals.

In the girls’ division, Darya Siranchuk (UKR) won her first title against Palina Chernik (BLR) with 5:1. Siranchuk has already won three medals in the girls’ last year but no title yet. One silver medal and two bronze medals were her achievements in Leende in 2017. Siranchuk had to take the detour over the loser’s side this year in 8-ball since she lost in the winner’s qualification round 4:5 to Aleksandra Guleikova (RUS). Then, she managed to win against Cindy Keller (SUI) 5:0 and Alina Brummer (GER) 5:2 before she encountered Valeriia Trushevskaia. That match turned into a fierce battle. When the smoke settled, Siranchuk was the 5:4 winner in the semi-final. The final match was a more or less clear affair for Siranchuk.

In the ladies’ division, Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) overpowered Anja Hehre (GER) with 5:3 in the final match, winning her 4th European Champion title in the ladies’ division.

In the wheelchair division, Jouni Tahti (FIN) once more was the guy to beat. He eliminated Henrik Lasrsson (SWE) with 5:2 in the final match. This is the 35th medal for Tahti on European level and his 23rd title. What a domination from Tahti. Unfortunately, the day also saw some donwside. The wheelchair division produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far. The athlete Kurt Deklerck (BEL) was given the black card and therefore disqualified from the whole European Championships and stripped from all his results. Deklerck was judged guilty for cheating in his matches in adding a greasy substance onto the cue ball during his match, manipulating the angles of the game. For that reason, there is only one Bronze Medal awarded in the wheelchair division today.

The titles in the 8-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. In the ladies division, Germany had a perfect day and took all 4 medals including the title for Susanne Wessel (GER). In the senior’s division, Henrique Correia (POR) took the title.
The final match in the senior’s division was played between Henrique Correia and Jim Telfer (NED). The odds were totally in favour of Correia. With 7 titles under his belt already, he was set for his next title. Having defeated Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) 7:2 among others today, he was filled with confidence and started the match furiously. The first 4 racks belonged to him alone and it looked like Telfer would receive a nice whipping from him. The Dutch who had eliminated his teammate Jesse Thehu (NED) 8:7 in the semi-final needed to get a foot in the door in the match. His break shot did not work and Correia made no mistakes so the final looked like a quick and easy walk for Correia. But after the first 4 racks, Telfer got to the table and cleared two times in a row to set his mark in the match. Correia was warned. Telfer should not be underestimated. From the time on when Telfer opened his account on the scoreboard, he played stronger and used his chances. However, he missed a few critical shots at bad times during the match. Each time when he got closer to Correia, he missed a makable ball and Correia kept the distance to him. In the end, Correia finished Telfer with 8:6 which brought him his 8th title at European Championships. Jim Telfer is a very deserved silver medallist today.

In the ladies division, the final match was an all-German affair between Susanne Wessel and Karin Michl. Both ladies have eliminated teammates in their semi-final match so all four medals in the ladies division today went to Team Germany. Both players Wessel and Michl have won numerous medals on European Championships. However, Wessel has much more titles in her portfolio. She won 6 Gold Medals whiLe Michl only has one title so far. That also showed in the final match. Michl started out strong and got a 2 point lead at 2:0. But then she missed shots and gave chances to Wessel who is too experienced to not use those. Wessel shocked Michl and took the next 4 racks to turn the score to 4:2. Then Michl pulled one back from her to go to 3:4 but Wessel again created a 2-point-lead to get on the hill at 5:3. Then she took a timeout. Coming back from that, she overran Michl once again and won the next rack and the match with 6:3.
Earlier today, the semi-finals in the team competition were played. In the seniors division, Team Norway remained the upper hand over Team Germany with 2:1. Dirk Stenten won the 8-ball 7:3 over Ronnie Oldervik to turn the score 1:0 for the Germans. But then Vegar Kristiansen won the 9-ball 8:6 over Guido Gerber and Christian Johannesen won surprisingly clear in the 10-ball match with 7:3 over Reiner Wirsbitzki. That brought the Norwegians into the team final where they will play the Dutch team. Team The Netherlands had won their semi-final over Team Finland clearly with 2:0. In the ladies division, the final match will be played between teams Germany and France. Bronze medals go to Italy and Portugal.

The next medals have been awarded at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) and Ine Helvik (NOR) took the titles in the 10-ball division. Three out of a total of 8 medals including both titles went to Norway today.
The final match in the seniors division was as fiercely fought over as expected. Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) as well as Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) both have a lot of experience and several titles under their belt. In total, they have won 7 titles and won 24 medals on former European Championships. So this time, a real favourite could not be spotted at all before the match. And the match confirmed that assumption. They both took racks in turn and their play was determined by a lot of tactical and safety elements. In the end, Kristiansen turned out to be the stronger player today. His safety play as well as his pocketing skills outmastered Wirsbitzki. He took three consecutive racks and made 8:5 the final score in his favour. Kristiansen seemed to have more power left in the end of the match.
In the ladies division, EPBF Board member Ine Helvik started out as strong as she performed in the semi-final match earlier today where she clearly wiped the floor with her opponent Wienke Thamsen (GER) and won 6:1. Her opponent in the final match, Nathalie Rohmer (FRA) had a bit more work to do. She needed 9 racks before she was able to finish Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) 6:3. In the final, Helvik continued as dominant as she played in the semis and even before that while Rohmer missed a few shots too many. Consequently, after 5 racks the scoreboard displayed a 4:1 lead for Helvik. But the match was not over yet. Rohmer pulled one rack back from Helvik but the Norwegian had a straight answer for her, winning the next rack and getting on the hill at 5:2. Helvik was at the table with her own break coming up. She had some balls down and a nice layout in front of her. She went ahead and played that rack rock solid. However, her nerves obviously played a trick on her when she dogged the 10-ball and left a long shot for Rohmer. The French also missed the 10-ball and left it for Helvik who pocketed it and crowned her strong performance with her first title on a European Championship level ever.
Earlier today, more rounds in the team competition have been played. In the seniors division, the losers side was up today. Teams Finland and Portugal won both their matches. They will be up in the loser’s qualification round. Finland will play Switzerland will the Portuguese team will have to deal with the German team. In the ladies division, Teams Germany and Portugal have made it to the semi-finals which will be played on Saturday afternoon at 14:30 CET.

At the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands, Miroslav Kremenovic (SRB) ousted big guns Dirk Stenten (GER) 7:2 in the single elimination round of the last 32 players.
Kremenovic has been a bit of an underdog for clear reasons. First of all, Stenten has played the final match of the seniors straight pool last night and won the silver medal in that competition. Secondly, Serbia has just entered the European Pocket Billiard Federation and is a brand new member. For these two reasons, the advantage was definitely pointing towards Stenten. But sometimes life does not follow statistics or rules. This was exactly the case in that match today. Kremenovic got a strong start and took the first two racks. He nearly did not miss a shot. Stenten was able to win the third rack to turn the score 2:1 for Kremenovic. Then the Serbian shifted into overdrive and won another three consecutive racks to go to 5:1 before Stenten scored another point to make it 5:2. These two racks were all that Kremenovic was ready to give to Stenten today. He scored another two and proceeded into the round of the last 16 players seniors 10-ball individuals where he will face Czaba Nagy (HUN) in his next match.
In the ladies division, Nathalie Rohmer (FRA), Barbara Bolfelli (ITA), Patrizia Ignesti (ITA) and Cristina Moscetti (ITA) are already through to the quarterfinals. This demonstrates the strength of the Italian contingency this year in the ladies division at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. Later this evening, two rounds of team competition have been played. In an epic thriller, team Germany defeated team Italy 2:1. All three matches were hill-hill results. While Dirk Stenten (GER) took the 8-ball match 7:6 for Germany, Marcello Valoroso (ITA) won the 9-ball 8:7 over Guido Gerber (GER). At 6:6 in the 10-ball, Danilo Cipriani (ITA) missed the deciding shot and left the 10-ball hanging over the pocket for Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) who took the victory for team Germany. In the ladies team competition, team Portugal defeated team Sweden 2:1 after a shootout.

The winner of the Dynamic Billard Italian Women Open is Ina Kaplan from Germany. She defeated Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) in an intense final match with 7:4.
The event could not have started worse for Kaplan. She met her teammate Kristina Schagan (GER) in her first match of the tournament with 1:7. What a disaster for her! She had to go straight to the loser’s side of the event. There, she suddenly found her rhythm back and rode the winning wave over Ine Helvik (NOR) 7:5, Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) 7:6 and Elise Qiu (NED) with 7:4. These victories brought her back to the single elimination round of the last 16 players. Looking at the draw, Kaplan had mountains to climb. Forst she dealt with Kateryna Polovinchul (UKR) 7:3, then she surprisingly ousted Russian top player Kristina Tkach (RUS) 7:3 and overcame her teammate Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER) 7:4 in the semifinal. In the final match she met European legend Jasmin Ouschan. Ouschan has also paid a visit to the loser’s side in this event. After winning over Veronika Ivanovskaia in her first match 7:2, she fell to Sara Rocha (POR) 6:7 and had to go to the loser’s side. There she wasted no time with Christine Steinlage (GER) and whitewashed her 7:0. Being in the single elimination stage, Ouschan eliminated Kristina Grim (GER) 7:0, after a tough fight Vanja Franco (POR) 7:5 and Katarzyna Wesolowska (POL) in the semi-final with 7:2. The final match was all set up and the odds were all in favour of Ouschan. The Austrian had clearer results and seemed to be too much of an obstacle for Kaplan. However, things did not turn out as expected. Two things went against the expectations. Firstly, Ouschan committed several unnecessary errors in the final match which is quite unusual for the perfectionist from Klagenfurt, Austria. Secondly, Kaplan played quite strong and solid and seemed to be of a stronger will to win this final than her opponent. Both of these facts led to the result of 7:4 in favour of Kaplan who is a well-deserved winner of the Dynamic Billard Italian Women Open 2017.

In the first round of the 9-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies in Tirana, Albania, Sami Karttunen (FIN) bested Tom Bjerke (NOR) 8:4.
The 9-ball individuals have started today in Tirana in the seniors as well as the ladies division. 77 seniors and 14 ladies are doing their best to get a shot at the coveted title of the European Champion. In the seniors division, Sami Karttunen encountered Tom Bjerke. Karttunen broke the first rack but came up dry on the break shot. Bjerke cleared the table and opened his account with 1:0. He took the next two racks as well to gain a nice 3:0 lead over Karttunen. The Finish did not get started yet and it looked like he had missed the beginning of the match completely. However, after 5 racks the score was 4:1 in favor of Bjerke. Suddenly Karttunen gained momentum and pulled back racks from Bjerke who seemed to be surprised by the „awakening“ of his opponent. Three racks later, the scoreboard displayed a 4:4 tie in the match. From then on, Bjerke could not find his form from the taking the match 8:4. The next match with Tom Damm (GER) however stopped Karttunen’s flow on a dime. He lost 6:8 and finds himself now on the left side of the draw just like Bjerke who lost his second match in a row to Thomas Radakovits (AUT) 3:8 and is now terminated from the 9-ball individuals.
Other remarkable results from today include defending Champion Henrique Correia (POR) routing Marko Hartikainen (FIN) 8:3 in his opening match in winner’s round 1. Maciej Trudnowski (POL) took down Jesper Schmidt (DEN) 8:5 and will next encounter Jan Keller (DEN) for a spot among the last 32 players single elimination.
In the ladies division, Karin Michl (GER) demolished Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) 5:0. Ann Sofie Löfgren (SWE) got the better of Monika Jarecki (GER) 5:2. Nathalie Rohmer (FRA) made it over Anne Nieminen (FIN) with 5:2 and will now deal with Cristina Moscetti (ITA) who had a walk-over in the first round.

Today the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies features team matches and 8-ball individuals. In the teams loser’s round one, Austria defeated Sweden in a thrilling drama 2:1.
Actually, the whole match boiled down to one shot that Sanne Azar (SWE) missed. The other two matches have finished almost simultaneously. Thomas Radakovits (AUT) won the 8-ball 7:4 over Glenn Andersson (SWE) while Stefan Ericson (SWE) snatched the 9-ball match 8:7 from Michael Moser (AUT). The team score was even at 1:1 with only the 10-ball going on between Azar and Markus Weichart (AUT). The Austrian was dominating the match very much from start until the score was 6:2. He had a nice 4-rack lead being on the hill already. But Azar can fight. He made his way back into the match and pulled rack after rack from Weichart. After 12 racks, the score was even tied at 6:6 with the showdown to come. One rack decided about going further or going home. Weichart broke the rack but no ball went down. The cue ball was frozen to the 2-ball but the 1-ball was available. Azar played an extremely difficult shot – especially in that situation – and pocketed the 1-ball. He then continued playing and had everything in front of him. No problems were on the table, it was just pocketing balls and getting position. He did everything right until he came to the 9-ball. Two more balls left on the table for the glory. Words can hardly describe what happened then. He missed a 9-ball that was almost impossible to miss and left two balls in front of the pockets on the table for Weichart. What a drama for Azar! After that huge comeback, he failed on that easy shot. Weichart got to the table and pocketed the two balls remaining for the victory. Team Austria took a 2:1 victory over team Sweden with that match and eliminated the Scandinavians out of the team competition. Austria will now play team Portugal in the next round. The Portuguese won 3:0 over North Cyprus. Team The Netherlands won 2:0 over team Turkey and will now meet team Finland who ousted team Norway 2:1 today.
Other remarkable results from today include defending 8-Ball Champion in the ladies division, Barbara Bolfelli (ITA), winning 5:0 over Ursula Habersaat (SUI). She now advances on the loser’s side to the next round where she will meet her teammate Cristina Moscetti (ITA). Karin Michl (GER) overpowered Ann-Sofie Löfgren (SWE) with 5:1 and will now encounter teammate Hildegard Kasper (GER) who defeated Monika Oeschger (SUI) with 5:0. In the winner’s qualification round, Ulrika Andersson (SWE) will meet Patrizia Ingest (ITA) while Monika Jarecki (GER) and Susanne Wessel (GER) will play the other match.
In the seniors division, defending Champion Sanne Azar outplayed Csaba Nagy (HUN) 7:3 and advanced to the single elimination round of the last 32 players which will be played today at 16:30 local time. Sandor Tot (HUN), newly crowned European Champion in seniors 10-ball, won a heartbreaker with 7:5 over strong Kostas Konnaris (CYP). Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) made unexpected short work of „Fabulous“ Fabio Petroni (ITA) and sent him to the loser’s side with 7:1. Angelo Salzano (ITA) wrestled Dino Ceramic (BIH) down with 7:6. Gianluca Boni (ITA) got the better of Jim Telfer (NED) with 7:3.

Jim Telfer (NED) subdued Marcel Schaerer (SUI) 7:2 in the first winner’s round of the 8-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies in Tirana, Albania.
Telfer started the match with his break shot but had no ball down. So Schaerer had the first chance to win a rack since all balls were widely spread. But he snookered himself on his last colored ball and committed a foul so Telfer ran the table and drew first blood. In the next rack, Telfer almost committed the same mistake as Schaerer earlier. He pocketed all striped balls but fell out of position for the 8-ball. He attempted to pocket it over one rail into the side pocket but he failed. Now Schaerer got to the table with all the solids nicely spread out for him. But he missed his second shot already and Telfer made the 8-ball to take a 20 lead over Schaerer. As the match went on, things continued as in the first two racks. Telfer simply made less mistakes than his opponent which finally and consequently brought him the 7:2 victory over the Swiss player.
Other remarkable results include defending Champion Sanne Azar (SWE) winning his first match 7:1 over Jorgen Nilsen (NOR). In the next round, Azar will go up against Csaba Nagy (HUN). Nagy took down Davy Piergiovanni (ITA) 7:2 in the first round and then squeezed past Stefan Ericsson (SWE) by a whisker with 7:6. The draw this year is pretty tough for Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER). His first two matches were no challenge to him. He clobbered Onur Abdik (TUR) 7:1 and Tero Kaivonen (FIN) also 7:1. But his next opponent will probably give him more resistance. He will have to deal with Fabio Petroni (ITA), experienced senior player from Italy. Petroni overmastered Dag-Joran Aralden (NOR) 7:4 in his first match.
In the ladies division, Ulrika Andersson (SWE) wasted no time with Monika Oeschger (SUI). 5:0 was the final result in favor of Andersson who will go against defending Champion Barbara Bolfelli (ITA) in the next round. Patrizia Ingest (ITA) got the better of Karin Michl (GER), winning the match 5:2. Ann-Sofie Löfgren (SWE) showed nor mercy with Anne Nieminen (FIN), sending her to the loser’s side with a clear 5:1.
This afternoon at 17:00 local time, the semi-finals of the 10-ball individuals will be played with the final matches scheduled for 19:00 today.

Susanne Wessel (GER) and Sandor Tot (HUN) have just won the Gold Medals in the 10-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies in Tirana, Albania.
Sandor Tot stormed off like a hurricane in the senior’s final. He took a quick 3:0 lead over Azar, being like at times. When he fell out of position, he came up with good safeties and he did not allow Azar to get in his game at all. So the Swedish had to somehow force himself into the match. He achieved that in the 4th rack which he broke and ran at high speed. Tot gave him the right answer and did the same in the next rack, pocketing a difficult 10-ball to make the score 4:1. Rack six saw Azar making two misses in a row but coming out lucky since he never left a shot for Tot. The Hungarian attempted a safety shot and completely missed the 1-ball. So Azar got to the table with ball in hand. To everyone’s surprise, Azar already missed the second shot again. He seemed to be completely demoralized. But also Tot showed nerves. He snookered himself on the 5-ball. So he tried to leave a tough shot for his opponent but Sanne Azar made that shot and stole that rack back from Tot. After that rack, Azar took a time-out and tried to compose himself and let Tot stew in the arena, thinking about his mistake. But it did not work as Azar had hoped. Tot snatched the next rack and made the score 5:2. Only two more racks to reach out for glory for Tot. But Azar took the next rack and at 5:3, Tot came up dry with his break shot. However, Azar could not benefit form it. Obviously he was struggling with the pace that Tot put to the match. Tot got on the hill with 6:3. In the 10th rack, Tot as well as Azar missed shots but Tot was the luckier player. He got the knuckles of the pockets when he needed them and finally snatched the rack and the match from Azar, winning the title with 7:3.
The final match in the ladies division was a one-person-show by German Susanne Wessel. She simply overran Cristina Moscetti (ITA) 5:1. Moscetti never had a real chance and was only able to open her account when Wessel was already on the hill. Being 0:4 down in a final race to 5, it is almost impossible to come back. Wessel allowed Moscetti to prevent the whitewash from happening and gave her one rack before she closed the book on the final match and won the Gold Medal 5:1.
