Stottlemyer double dips Reynolds to take Action Pool Tour stop

Brett Stottlemyer moved himself into the top position on the 2012/2013 Action Pool Tour rankings with a victory on the tour's fifth stop, held on the weekend of February 9-10. He double dipped tour director Ozzy Reynolds in the finals to do it. The event drew 44 entrants to Break Time in Salisbury, MD.

Stottlemyer got things underway with victories over Sonny Hammett, Sean Sporleder, and then survived a double hill match against Kevin West, to move among the winners' side final four and a match against Cliff Cotman. Reynolds, in the meantime, following victories over Freddie Miles, Kia Sidbury, and Mike Slagle, squared off against Antonio Austin in the other winners' side semifinal. Stottlemyer downed Cottman 9-3 and was met in the hot seat match by Reynolds, who'd sent Austin west 9-4. Reynolds sent Stottlemyer to the semifinals by the same score and sat in the hot seat, awaiting his return.

Cottman moved west to pick up Dominic Noe, who entered the tournament at # 2 in the rankings, and had won six on the loss side, including victories over Jackie Rivera 7-2 and Dan Madden 7-1 to reach him (Rivera's 9th place finish earned her $100 as the event's top-finishing female). Austin drew Tim Colvin, who'd gotten by Will Johnson 7-4 and Kevin West 7-5. Colvin and Noe handed Cottman and Austin their second straight loss (Colvin 7-2 over Austin, Noe 7-3 over Cottman) and faced each other in the quarterfinals.

Colvin ended Noe's seven-game, loss-side winning streak with a 7-3 win, and squared off against Stottlemyer in the semifinals. The two battled to double hill before Stottlemyer prevailed for a second shot against Reynolds.

Stottlemyer took the opening set of the finals 9-6. He claimed the event title and his spot at the top of the tour rankings with a 7-3 win in the second set.

Dan Madden claimed the title in the event's Second Chance Tournament. Sean Sporleder finished second, with Johnny Connor in third place and Brady Bounds in 4th.
