De Luna beats Alcano to win Star Billiards 10-Ball; Pockets P100,000

Power-Breaker Jeffrey "The Bull" De Luna defeated former World 9-ball and 8-ball champion Ronato "Volcano" Alcano, 9-0, to rule the January edition of the tough and prestigious Star Billiards 10-Ball tournament held at the Star Billiards Center, Quezon City over the weekend.

With the victory, De Luna, the 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-ball silver medallist and 2007 Manny Pacquiao International 9-ball champion, took the champion's purse of P100,000. The event was hosted by long-time billiards patron Sebastian "Baste" Chua. Alcano, meantime, received the runner-up prize of P20,000.

On the road to the finals, De Luna subdued Carlo "Cool" Biado, 9-5, while Alcano edged Philippine Money Game King and 2010 World Pool Master kingpin Dennis "Robocop" Orcullo, 9-8.

Biado and Orcullo, both losing-semi finalists, went home with P4,000 each. Fifth to 8th placers who received P2,500 each were Warren "Warrior" Kiamco, reigning two-time BSCP National Open champion Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza, Demosthenes "Plong-Plong" Pulpul and Roland dela Cruz.

Ninth to 16th placers, who pocketed P1,500 each, were 2007 World 9-ball finalist Roberto "Pinoy Superman" Gomez, Elvis Calasang, Jordan Legaspi, Carlos Ruiz, Dondon Razalan, Joven Bustamante, John Salazar and Jericho Banares.
