Dee Minor Wins Latest Tiger Bay Area Amateur Tour

Diana Minor

With the threat of storms looming overhead, many events on the east coast ended up with a few less players than anticipated this weekend and the Tiger Bay Area Amateur Tour was one of them.  But, as they say in show business, the show must go on and that is exactly what Stephanie Mitchell ensured happened.  Kudos to her for making it work!

With fewer than a dozen players in tow, the $500 added September 6th event at Diamond Billiards in Cape Coral, Florida, fell just a bit short, but the players gave everything and then some to the spectators onsite.  Top names included Diana “Dee” Minor, Leslee Davis-Blaikie, and Michell Monk heading up the field.

But, it would be Minor and Shelly Harrison that would find themselves in the hot-seat match – Minor ended up on top to await her opponent from the west side of the brackets.  The semi-final round pitted Stephanie McFarlin against Harrison.  Harrison dominated the set, ending McFarlin's run with an abrupt beating at 6-0.

The finals were quite a bit tighter.  Harrison attempted to avenge her earlier loss, but in the end, played aggressively on the final few shots of the set instead of taking the safe way and it cost her the victory over Minor at hill-hill.  Great play by both ladies!

Just a few notes from the tour – if you plan to attend the season finale scheduled for December 6th at Strokers in Palm Harbor, Florida, please note that you must have attended two events previously.  With that said, there are only two events left in the season before that finale, which are coming up just around the corner.  Strokers Billiards will host a $500 added event October 11th and Corner Pocket in Largo, Florida, will do the same on November 1st.  So far, the season finale is shaping up quite nicely with at least $2250 in added money.  And, as a bonus, if you have been waiting to become a member, now is the time to do so.  If you bring a buddy with you, both new players will only pay one membership fee for the tour.
