Kia Burwell Competes in Black Widow 14.1 Cancer Fundraiser This Weekend

The next player to try to challenge Jeanette Lee’s straight pool record of 152 consecutive balls is WPBA touring pro Kia Burwell. Burwell has been a regular competitor on the WPBA Tour over the last 10 years and is currently ranked #43 on the tour points list. She has numerous wins on the J. Pechauer Northeast Women’s Tour.

“I’m excited and truly honored that I was invited to do the 14.1 challenge.” said Burwell.  “My family has been affected by cancer as dear and close as my dad, brother, and aunt who lost their battles.   I’m competing to honor them and show my support for those family members currently in the fight!”

Burwell will be at the Street Lights Billiards Academy in Alexandria, Virginia on July 22nd – 23rd to try her hand at running as many balls in a row as she can.

Emily Duddy ran 35 consecutive balls as part of the Black Widow 14.1 High Run Invitational Cancer fundraiser earlier this month. “My personal high is 45” said Burwell. I don’t want to focus on her (Emily’s) high run but on one ball at a time and  the process of playing straight pool.”

The Black Widow 14.1 High Run Invitational is a new fundraiser to raise money for cancer awareness and cancer research, put together by Bobby Chamberlain and his Legends of Pocket Billiards.

Fans who are interested in supporting this event and Burwell’s attempt to break the record are urged to donate $1 a ball for her highest run. Donations can be made online on the fundraiser page in conjunction with The V Foundation organization.

Fans can also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a beautiful Volturi case designed to commemorate this historic event.  More information on the raffle, as well as streaming coverage of Burwell’s attempts, can be found on the Legends of Pocket Billiards Facebook page.

Burwell is currently sponsored by McDermott Cue, N’ the Zone Apparel, Straight Pool Eye, Corner 4 Billiards, Center Pocket Cafe & Billiards. Burwell will also be competing on August 4th – 5th as part of this fundraiser.
