The World Pool Championship is down to the last 64 after the conclusion of the double elimination group stage at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
Among the high-profile casualties of the group stage were USA’s two-time Mosconi Cup winner Tyler Styer, former US Open Champion Corey Deuel and former World Champion Mika Immonen, who suffered a 7-9 defeat to Ralf Souquet.
Three of the eight female entries have advanced to the last 64 including Women’s World Champion Kelly Fisher. Germany’s Veronika Ivanovskaia went through with wins over Nick Malia and Tim De Ruyter, while Jasmin Ouschan won a hill-hill thriller against Mark Gray from 7-1 down to beat the Brit to a place in the knockout stages.
US Open Champion Joshua Filler came through the losers side of the group brackets win a 9-6 win over Sergey Lutsker, and Mosconi Cup MVP Jayson Shaw also made it through thanks to a 9-6 win over fellow Brit Imran Majid.
Shaw will now face Shane van Boening in a mouth-watering Last-64 clash, which will follow Fedor Gorst against Skyler Woodward on the TV table.
The last 64 begins at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports, DAZN and Matchroom.Live. Away from the TV table, matches include Darren Appleton vs Joshua Filler, Alex Kazakis vs Naoyuki Oi and young Bosnian rising star Sanjin Pehlivanovic against Albin Ouschan.
Albin’s sister Jasmin will face Aleksa Pecelj, Fisher is up against Jeremy Sossei and Ivanovskaia will face Max Lechner.

Roberto Gomez defeated Albin Ouschan 9-7 to advance to the last 64 of the World Pool Championship at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, but only after a brilliant fightback from the Austrian, who had been 8-0 down.
Ouschan is still alive in the double elimination event and will now face a sudden-death play-off to qualify for the straight-knockout stage. After getting on the board at 8-0 down, Ouschan would have thought his fightback was brief until Gomez missed an 8, and from then the 2016 World Champion set to work on winning six consecutive racks before a missed 6 at just one behind gave his Filipino opponent the chance to win.
Also on the TV table on Sunday evening was US No.1 Shane van Boening, who got his tournament off with a 9-3 win over Petr Urban. He’ll now face fellow American Oscar Dominguez for a place in the last 64.
Germany’s Veronika Ivanovskaia shocked Greece’s Nick Malai with a 9-7 victory, the first win for one of the tournament’s eight female entrants. Ivanovskaia’s compatriot Joshua Filler also got off to a winning start, beating Belarsus’ Margarite Fefilova.
American female April Larson gave Chris Melling a scare before the Brit closed out a 9-7 victory, while Darren Appleton booked his place in the last 64 with a 9-2 success over Germany’s Christof Reintjes, who was on the winning side when the pair were on opposing teams in the World Cup of Pool final last month.
Defending champion Fedor Gorst is safely through to the last 64 after wins over Mark Magi and Mark Gray. Team USA’s Mosconi Cup star Billy Thorpe has also won through the groups stage, as had former World Champion Thorsten Hohmann.

In an all-German clash of two World Champions at the Dynamic Billard Antalya Open 2019, Joshua Filler (GER) ousted his fellow countryman Thorsten Hohmann (GER) with 9:3.
When the draw was done and the match between Filler and Hohmann was on the board, the expectations grew pretty high from the audience. Both players are former or current World Champions and have both dominated the youth in their respective generation. Today, more experienced Hohmann entered the ring against young Filler who is on fire for quite some time now. Experience against youth, precision against audacity. Who would remain the upper hand in this classy match?! To the liking of Filler, the match completely went for him. His break shot came good, he had decent layouts and ran the table when needed. Hohmann did not play bad but Filler was just better today. Therefore, the end result of 9:3 in favour of Filler is a true display of the course of this match. While Hohmann now has to settle for 17th, Filler will play against Mark Gray (GBR) tomorrow morning at 10:00 local time. Gray ousted Tomasz Kaplan (POL) with an impressive 9:2 tonight. Other remarkable results from that round include Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) ended the road for Albin Ouschan (AUT) with 9:2. Sanchez-Ruiz will now meet Wiktor Zielinski (POL) who stood tall against Tim De Ruyter (NED) tonight with 9:5.
Earlier today, one of the biggest oddities in a Euro-Tour event ever happened in Antalya. Darren Appleton (GBR) who defeated Mark Gray yesterday, did not show up for his winner’s qualification round match. After Gray, he also defeated Mohammadhossein Noori (IRI) 9:5 this morning in the 09:00 round. Then he did not show up for this winner’s qualification match against Albin Ouschan (AUT) and forfeited the match. On top of that, he also did not show up for his next match, the loser’s qualification match against Mark Gray again. The worried organisers tried to look for him and in the end it turned out that Appleton simply overslept! „Decided to take a nap around 11-12pm after my match this morning as I’ve slept terrible since I arrived and even worse last night,Set my alarm for 2pm but fell back asleep ! I was due to play at 4.30pm didn’t make that match and 6pm losers Q but didn’t wake up until 6.30pm so got forfeited both matches!! Shit happens!!“ stated Appleton on his facebook page. „Thanks for everyone’s concern that was worried about me and good luck to everyone left in the tournament!“
In the loser’s qualification round, Thorsten Hohmann (GER) went up against Mario He (AUT). Both players are known to be „heavyweights“ in European pool and it was impossible to predict the outcome of that match. So the match went along, confirming that assumption. The tide turned several times in the match. Hohmann was up 6:3 at some stage but Mario He went on the hill first with 8:7. Hohmann struck back and made the match a hill-hill thriller at 8:8. In rack #17, Mario He had the break shot. He pocketed three balls but had a tough shot on the 2-ball. Mario He decided to play a safety on the 2-ball, leaving nothing for Hohmann to capitalise from. The German came up with an even better safety shot, creating a huge problem for He. He put the cue ball in the jaws of a pocket, leaving the 2-ball in the middle of the opposite short rail with several object balls blocking the path. Mario He played a jump shot and hit the 2-ball but left an open shot with a clear layout for Hohmann. Thorsten Hohmann used that chance and ran the rack, winning the match with 9:8 over an unlucky Mario He.

The first day in Antalya of the Dynamic Billard Antalya Open 2019 started sunny as expected. Most players of the first round matches were on time for the beginning of their competition. In the first round, Nick Malai (GRE) and Marcel Price (GBR) had the toughest challenges. Both of them won their opening matches with 9:8 over their respective opponents which took a lot of energy out of them at such an early time of the day.
As the day continued, more remarkable matches could be witnessed. In the first winner’s round, Nick Malai took down Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) surprisingly clear with 9:1 and sent him to the loser’s side of the bracket. Jan Rempe (NED), young player from the dutch contingency, managed to overpower Fedor Gorst (RUS) with 9:5 in the same round. Jani Siekkinen (FIN) wasted no time with Alex Montpellier (FRA) wiping the floor with him with 9:0. Siekkinen’s teammate Jani Uski (FIN) also won his match against Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) with 9:7. One of the two big clashes in the first winner’s round was the all British match between Mark Gray and Darren Appleton. Both players have earned their merits in the past and it was clear that the one with the better daily form would probably succeed over the other. Additionally, Appleton had been absent for a long time and just started his Euro-Tour play again last tournament in Klagenfurt, Austria, while Gray has been a regular on the tour for many years now. Today, the match went in favour of Appleton since Gray had no break at all. Appleton took him down 9:5 and Gray stated on his facebook page later: „Horrible game that lost 9-5 to Darren Appleton. Better player undoubtedly won. Break killed me but didn’t feel good so good luck to Daz… Granite back to the beach!!“ The other „big match“ in that round was the encounter between Pijus Labutis (LTU) and Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP). That match was controlled by the Spaniard and won with 9:6 by Sanchez-Ruiz.

In the round of the last 32 players single elimination of the Dynamic Billard Klagenfurt Open 2019, all remaining three Austrian players have been eliminated,
Albin Ouschan (AUT) was up against young Wiktor Zielinski (POL). The Polish youth player has demonstrated last year when he won the Euro-Tour in Treviso, Italy, how strong he can perform. That also happened tonight. he succeeded in playing his A-game, using his chances and keeping Ouschan always at a distance. After 2:2, Zielinski dominated the match and did not allow Ouschan to get back into it. He made no mistakes while the Austrian struggled and could not find a recipe to break Zielinski’s run. 9:6 was the clear result in favour of Zielinski which leaves a 17th rank finish for Ouschan.
Ouschan’s teammates Mario He and Max Lechner had even worse experiences in the same round. Both of them lost with 1:9. Mario He fell against Eklent Kaci (ALB) while Lechner was overpowered by Ruslan Chinakhov. Having three top class players in the round of the last 32 players with all of them losing more or less clearly is definitely not the result that the Austrian organiser would have wished to see at the end of this day.
Loser’s Round 2
The day started with most matches displaying „business as usual“. Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) seemed to be back on track and eliminated Adam Stankiewicz (POL) 9:4. Wiktor Zielinski (POL) handed a doughnut to Marco Schmitt (GER) winning his match 9:0. The first small upset was provided by Pierfrancesco Garzia (ITA) when he ousted teammate Fabio Petroni (ITA) surprisingly with 9:5. Another interesting result was Marcus Chamat (SWE), the captain of the European Mosconi Cup Team, winning with 9:5 over Imran Majid (GBR). The next round however brought a huge surprise. Ralf Souquet (GER), multiple World, European and Euro-Tour Champion, was kicked out by Michael Huetter (AUT), local player from Austria. That exit came completely unexpected for Souquet and does also not help him to advance in the rankings. While Souquet was out, other high profile players on the loser’s side such as Tomasz Kaplan (POL), Thorsten Hohmann (GER) and Darren Appleton (GBR) continued their quest through the loser’s rounds.
Loser’s Round 3
The next capital casualties were recorded in loser’s round 3. Thorsten Hohmann fell to the sharp blade of Alex Montpellier (FRA) with 7:9. The same round saw Pijus Labutis (LTU) fall to Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) with 0:9. Francesco Candela (ITA), dark horse from Italy ended Darren Appleton’s journey here at the Dynamic Billard Klagenfurt Open 2019 with an impressive 9:7 victory over the former World Games Gold Medallist.
Loser’s Round 4
This round saw the end of Europe’s Mosconi Cup captain Marcus „Napoleon“ Chamat (SWE) who was defeated by Konstantinos Koukiadakis (GRE) with 9:8. Karol Skowerski (POL) took down „The Terminator“ Niels Feijen (NED) with 9:6 in the same round.
Tomorrow, the Dynamic Billard Klagenfurt Open 2019 will continue at 10:00 CET with matches from the round of the last 16 players single elimination. The final match is scheduled for 18:00 local time.

In a tight match, Mark Gray (GBR) overcame Daniel Maciol (POL) in winner’s round 2 of the Dynamic Billard Veldhoven Open 2019 with 9:7.
The match started out much better for Maciol than it did for Gray. After three racks, the Polish was leading 3:0 with Gray not having much to say in the match. But then he seemed to find his rhythm and pulled back some racks from Maciol, tying the match at 3:3 after 6 racks. Then the match went along with both players winning their respective racks until the scoreboard displayed 6:6. At that time, Maciol went fir his time out. Maybe he should not have done that because he seemed to struggle with his break shot afterwards. Gray made use of that and capitalised from Maciol’s weakness and went on the hill with 8:6. Maciol managed to pull another rack from Gray before the Brit was able to finish the match with 9:7 over Maciol. That puts Gray into the winner’s qualification round while Maciol needs to go over the loser’s side now.
Another remarkable match was the encounter between Mario He (AUT) and Tobias Bongers (GER). The Austrian was the definite favourite in the match though the German did have some promising appearances in the past. However, He performed totally flawless while Bongers struggled with his break shot. Therefore, Mario He was able to gain an early advantage in the match which he was bale to keep and secure it to the end of the match. 9:4 was the final result which put Mario He through to winner’s round 2 while Bongers went to the loser’s side.
Some female contestants started their day quite strong this morning. Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) defeated Mats Schjetne (NOR) 9:3 while Valeriia Trushevskaia (RUS) took down Krystian Cwikla (POL) 9:6. Elise Qiu (NED) won 9:6 over her opponent Remy Penmellen (FRA). Kristina Tkach (RUS) was a bit unlucky in her match when she scratched with only the 8-ball and the 9-ball left on the table at a score of 8:8. She attempted to play the 8-ball over one rail with the cue ball remaining safe in case the ball would not go in. but she drew in straight into the corner pocket. So she suffered a narrow 8:9 loss against Johannes Gehe (GER).

Team Chile (JP Parmentier – Matchroom Multi Sport)
Chile stunned Great Britain B at the BetVictor World Cup of Pool on Tuesday, dumping the hosts out of the tournament with a 7-5 first-round victory at the Morningside Arena, Leicester, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
There were wins for Philippines and USA during the evening session, but the big story was Chile. As hosts, Great Britain have two teams in the event, and it was Enrique Rojas and Alejandro Carvajal who had the unenviable task of facing the ‘B’ team of Mark Gray and Imran Majid in front of their home crowd.
But the South American pairing rose to the occasion and matched the host nation throughout. The race-to-seven match reached 4-4 without either side opening up more than a one-frame lead. Chile moved to the hill at 6-4, and though Great Britain B pulled one back, they couldn’t force the decider as the visitors closed out the match for a memorable win and to set up a second-round encounter with defending champions China.
That came after Carlo Biado and Jeff De Luna were pushed all the way in the tournament’s first hill-hill thriller as the Philippines survived an almighty scare against the Czech Republic pairing of Roman Hybler and Michael Gavenciak.
At no point during the match did either side open up a lead of more than one rack, and it was the Czechs who reached the hill first, but their sixth dry break allowed the Philippines to run out and join them, giving a fitting conclusion to a gripping clash.
It was Biado to break in the decider, and with the 1 down the table offered an opportunity to clear. Biado, though, missed a straight 5, which came to rest back along the top rail. Hybler attempted to bank it down table but, as well as missing, he left De Luna a clear shot. This time the Philippines made no mistakes and saw out the match to set up a second-round clash with Albania.
Earlier in the evening USA had defeated Brazil 7-2. Shane Van Boening and Skyler Woodward, finalists at the World Cup in 2017 and Mosconi Cup winners last December, were not at their best but still managed a convincing win over the struggling Brazilians and will meet Holland in round two on Thursday evening.
“We didn’t really play well,” said Van Boening. “We had a problem with our luggage, Skyler’s cues didn’t show up until two hours before the match. We were running around trying to get his bag so he could play, so we didn’t get much practice before the match.”
Play continues with six more first round matches across two sessions on Wednesday, including hosts Great Britain A in action against Tony Drago’s Malta. The BetVictor World Cup of Pool is broadcast live in over 100 countries around the world, including on Sky Sports and DAZN.

"The Terminator" Niels Feijen (NED) thrashed "The Hitman" Thorsten Hohmann (GER) with 9:3 in a very single sided match of the Dynamic Billard St. Johann im Pongau Open 2019.
The match was expected to have two ingredients: high class pool and close combat action. Both players are known to be able to perform on the highest level and have plenty of titles under their belt. In the early stage of the match, that promise was broken by a mile and spectators were disappointed a bit since the two contestants committed many mistakes and took wrong decisions. This unforeseen course of the match lead to a 3:1 lead for Feijen. However, during the match it was "The Terminator" who composed himself and got to his normal performance while Hohmann struggled. Hohmann kept on missing shots and playing bad positions and safeties while Feijen got to "normal mode". The logical consequence was Feijen running away on the scoreboard, taking a 7:2 lead after nine racks played. Then, a curious situation occurred. Feijen broke the 9-ball and went on the hill with 8:2. The rack was made for Hohmann who went in there and also broke the 9-ball! Two 9-ball breaks in a row, that does not happen so often. However, after that the match was over. Feijen cleared the table once more to achieve his deserved 9:3 victory over Hohmann.
Another remarkable match was the encounter between #5 ranked player Mark Gray (GBR) and Fabio Petroni (ITA) in the first winner’s round. Gray as the favoured player was seeded and had a walk-over in the first round while Petroni needed to overcome his first obstacle in the person of Denver Amoyo (AUT). Petroni wasted no time with his Austrian opponent and won the match quite comfortably with 9:4. Then, the experienced Italian met Gray. That match stayed open until the first six racks have been played. The scoreboard displayed a 3:3 score when Petroni shifted into overdrive and took the next five consecutive racks from Gray. He was simply outplaying the Brit who only achieved one more point before Petroni sealed the deal and hammered Gray with 9:4 to the loser’s side. "Long slog time starts now here in Austria!!!! Lost 9-4 to Italy’s Fabio Petroni he played decent and I didn’t!!!! Back on in a couple hours time…." was Gray’s comment on his public facebook page. Gray faced unheralded Sascha Ratz (GER) in his next match. There, he wiped the floor with the German and won 9:1 to get to the next round.
In an "iberian battle" in winner’s round 1, Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) outfought Henrique Correia (POR) with 9:5. An unexpectedly clear defeat was handed to young Pijus Labutis (LTU). He was trounced 2:9 by Mats Schjetne (NOR). Imran Majid (GBR) steamrolled former World Champion Oliver Ortmann (GER) with 9:2.

Team Philippines Will Face the Czech Republic In Round One (JP Parmentier)
The draw for the 2019 World Cup of Pool has been made, with China to start their title defence against Sweden and hosts Great Britain A to face Malta in round one.

As hosts, Great Britain have two teams in the event. Great Britain A (Jayson Shaw and Chris Melling) being their World Cup on the Wednesday evening against Malta, who include cue legend Tony Drago alongside Clayton Castaldi. Great Britain B (Imran Majid and Mark Gray) face Chile (Enrique Rojas / Alejandro Carvajal) during Tuesday evening’s session.

A season ticket is available for £75 with premium ticket packages available for weekend days including food and unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks.
The 2019 World Cup of Pool features 32 two-player teams battling for the $60,000 first prize from a total prize fund of $250,000. Matches are race to 7 in the first two rounds, race to 9 in the quarter and semi-finals and, for the first time, race to 11 in the final.
