The owners of Big Dog Billiards in Des Moines, Iowa (Mark Oelslager and Randy Hansen) offered up a special treat for their local pool enthusiasts. On Friday, September 28th, professional player Shane Van Boening and regional super star Jesse Bowman performed in front of the local crowd in what was dubbed a super match – the race was to thirty and the game nine-ball. All in all, there were a total of ninety VIP seats sold for this match-up. When all was said and done, Van Boening would once again end up on top – he defeated Bowman 30-23.

In addition to the super match, on Saturday, September 29th, the room hosted a $1500 added handicapped eight ball tournament. The total number of players to make their way to Big Dog's was ninety-three. Some of the remarkable talent in the field included recent super match winner, Shane Van Boening, his opponent Jesse Bowman and two local up and coming players, Jamie Fenton and sixteen year old Daniel Maize.

At the end of the evening, the final four gentlemen standing when the chalk cleared were Jamie Fenton, local player Mike Bennett, Shannon Rasmussen, and Shane Van Boening, but it would be all Van Boening as he managed to control the tables and deflect the field. When the final set rolled around, the first place distinction would ultimately be settled between Rasmussen and Van Boening. Van Boening dug in and bulldozed Rasmussen for the tournament victory and a final score of 7-2.
