Wu is first to WTBC Finals

Chia-Ching Wu

Former World 8-ball and 9-ball World Champion Chia-Ching Wu is one win away from adding the World 10-ball title to his resume.

Wu ended the cinderella run of Filipino Demosthenes Pulpul with a hard fought 11-8 win on the TV table Saturday evening.

Wu raced to a 5-0 lead and looked to be in complete control of the match.

Then it was Pulpul's turn. Pulpul took advantage of a scratch on the break by Wu and quickly ran to a 3-10 combo to get on the board. Pulpul fought back to tie the match at 5-5 and then took advantage of an error by Wu in rack eleven to take his first lead at 6-5.

Pulpul went ahead 7-5, but then Wu came back to tie the match at 7-7. Pupul had a great chance to regain the lead in rack fifteen, but hung a 7-ball and allowed Wu to regain the lead at 8-7. Wu extended the lead to 9-7 and got to the hill first at 10-8.

Again, Pulpul looked ready to notch a rack in his direction, but a missed 5-7 combo was his last mistake as Wu calmly ran out the remaining balls for the win.

Wu will now await the winner between Darren Appleton and Niels Fiejen to find out who he plays Sunday in the finals.
