Souquet Goes to Weert

Ralf Souquet

Ralf Souquet has added yet another win on his 2008 belt with his victory this past week at the Weert 9-Ball Open in the Netherlands. Souquet, who earlier this year won the WPA World 8-Ball Championships,  had to defeat the newest world champion, Niels Feijen (who just won the World Straight Pool title) and did so handily with a 9-6 victory to send himself into the finals. There he met Mehmet Cankurt of Turkey whom he dispatched 9-5 to own the tournament.

Ralf had one of the toughest draws in the tournament. Once in the final 32 he first had to best Gabriele Cimmino of Italy. Gabriele may as well have stayed in Rome as Ralf destroyed him 9-1.  To prove that domination was no fluke Ralf then humbled Oliver Ortmann 9-4 before dismantling Ruslan Chinahov 9-4 to earn his place in the semi's against Feijen.
