In a final that was mainly determined by one man, Albin Ouschan (AUT) defeated "The Maharaja" Imran Majid (GBR) clearly with 9:2.
The early stage of the final match was determined by equal shotmaking of both players. Consequently, the scoreboard displayed 2:2 after four racks. In rack six, the referee called a foul shot on Majid which he disagreed with. However, Ouschan got to the table and managed to get a two-point lead for the first time in the match. It turned out that this situation became the turning point in the final. Ouschan had some luck with his safety play but in the end did not allow Majid to win any more rack. He played consistently and paved his way to glory with solid pool and excellent shotmaking. 9:2 was the final result which brought Ouschan the victory at the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open.
"I was lucky at times with my safety play," admitted Ouschan after the match, "but all in all I think I have played some good pool here. I have won the China Open this year, been Nr. 1 on the WPA rankings, played the World Cup of Pool and the Challenge of Champions recently and now came here to win the Euro-Tour. I think I’m ready for a little break to enjoy life with my girl-friend and our newly born daughter."
In the semi-final, Majid got the better of Jonni Fulcher (GBR), winning clearly with 9:4. It was really a one man show by Majid who was leading 5:0 at some stage. The other semi-final between Ouschan and Sebastian Ludwig (GER) was a bit closer. After 12 racks, the match was tied at 6:6. Then Ouschan got the better roll of the balls and turned the match into a 9:6 victory for himself, defeating a strong Ludwig who has had two third-place finishes in a row.
Top Eight Ranked Players of the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open
Nick Van Den Berg and Niels Feijen have both made it into the round of the last 16 players at the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. It looks very promising that we will have Dutch representation in the final stage of the event.
The current Nr. 1 ranked player of the Euro-Tour, Niels Feijen, has won four consecutive matches for his seat in the round of the last 16 players. He defeated Evangelos Vettas (GRE) 9:3 on Thursday, Sebastian Ludwig (GER) 9:6 on Friday and Mieszko Fortunski (POL) 9:7 as well as Petri Makkonen (FIN) with the same result today to show his strength and permanent high level of play in the Euro-Tour. In defeating Makkonen, Feijen also secured himself a spot on this year’s Mosconi Cup Team. Feijen will play against Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (ESP) in the round of the last 16 players.
Nick van den Berg had to play more matches to get to this stage. He lost in the winner’s round to 15-year old Fedor Gorst from Moscow, Russia, yesterday. SO he needed three more victories to make it into the round of the last 32 players. But van den Berg is a fighter and a high profile player. He defeated Karol Skowerski (POL) 9:6, Christian Sparrenloev-Fischer (SWE) 9:3 and Mihai-Robert Braga (ROM) 9:5 in order to get drawn into the round of the last 32 players. And there he was meant to get his revenge since he was drawn against Fedor Gorst again. This time, van den Berg again took an 8:3 lead over Gorst and AGAIN committed a mistake at that score. It looked like history could repeat itself. But at 4:8, Gorst missed an easy 2-ball and paved the way for van den Berg to win the match with 9:4 this time. Van den Berg will play Alexander Kazakis (GRE) in the next round.

In a feature match, Warren Kiamco (PHL) was up against Thorsten Hohmann (GER), for more than likely the decider on who would win the group and get a bye in the round of 24 next. For those who remember last year, Kiamco knocked Hohmann out in the final 16. And he didn't look like he was concerned with revenge when he ran a perfect 101 to skunk the 3x World Champion 100-0. Hohmann still looks good to qualify with the second spot in the group.
Dennis Orcullo hasn't broken a sweat yet with his win over Bob Jewett, and Roberto Gomez has cruised to undefeated matches. Actually, all three Filipinos who entered the event remain undefeated for a 15-0 record collectively.
On the opposite side, Mika Immonen faces a challenge as he has dropped 2 losses already and will need to win both his final matches on Day 3 to qualify. He nearly spoiled his chances to even advance last night when Eisenberg of CA needed only a rack to finish off the Iceman, but Mika came back for a narrow 100-86 win.
Danny Harriman also escaped Frankie Hernandez's comeback and will need to win his remaining 2 matches to qualify.
Junior European champion Joshua Filler was wiped out on Day 1 by another fast shooter Jayson Shaw of Scotland, but today he showed his talent by defeating one of the event's darkhorse favorites Tony Robles 100 – 39.
Down 53 to -3, Jonni Fulcher made an amazing comeback with a 103 ball run against Harriman and now carries the event high run. But with 4 days coming up with races to 150, 200, and 300, it's likely there will be bigger runs to come!
Germany's European Seniors champion Reiner Wirsbitzki also went to 5-0.
Day 3 will conclude with 32 players eliminated from the field and remaining 24 players in the money, racing to 150 points, and in the hunt for the World 14.1 title.

Shane Van Boening has stayed undefeated through both stages of the World 14.1 and with the elimination of Thorsten Hohmann, he has taken the #1 seed. The third and final stage of the Andy Cloth World Tournament of 14.1 has begun with the final sweet 16 players.

Van Boening crushed Scotland's Fulcher 150- 46 to earn his spot into the sweet 16 final races to 200. Shane made it to this stage last year but lost to John Schmidt and tied for 9th. He is looking better this year in his 14.1 skills and could be making a run to the finals if he can get by Archer today.
"Shane is definitely the most consistent player I've seen this week. He's been blowing out all his opponents, so it appears he has been working on his straight pool skills. I would definitely pick him as the top dark horse favorite to win", said Charlie Williams, Executive Producer of the World Tournament.
Even though they will not be the main feature TV match, the Strickland vs Immonen match will be entertaining. At the speed they both play, it likely won't be a long match even with 200 points to play.
Appleton and Robles remain to be the other undefeated players left. Appleton has not performed like last year yet, but still managed to win his matches and will face Corey Deuel today. Robles has never made it to this stage of the event undefeated before, and is looking like a real threat. He faces Jonni Fulcher of Scotland.

Cison di Valmarino, Italy: The "Maharaja" Imran Majid (GBR) ousted local hero "Fabulous" Fabio Petroni (ITA) with 9:5 from the tournament.
Majid was the better player in the match and deserved the victory. He had balls down in 86% of his break shots with a 67% shot on the lowest numbered ball. Furthermore, he broke and ran 3 racks on Fabio. The Italian played a match of ups and downs. His break ratio was 100%, he always had a ball down on the break. But only in 29% was he able to play the lowest numbered ball.
In the early stage of the match it looked like Majid would not allow it to become a fight at all. He was leading 4:0 after four racks, not leaving a chance for Petroni so far. A mistake which Majid committed in rack five opened the door for Petroni to get the first point in his account. Majid snookered himself and gave an open table away to Petroni. As the match went on, it was obvious that Majid was the player in better shape today. He played more constant and his safety shots were more efficient than Petroni’s. Also, the break shot efficiency from Majid outscored Petroni by a mile. In the 14th rack, Majid broke the balls and had a possible layout in front of him. All of a sudden, Petroni gave up, shook hands and unscrewed his cue sticks. That was a bit strange since he was only trailing three racks at the time. However, Majid deserved the victory and will now proceed to the round of the final 16 players which will be played tomorrow morning at 10:00 local time.

Cison di Valmarino, Italy: In the first winner’s round of the Dynamic Billard Castelbrando Open, the winner of the recent Euro-Tour, Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) wiped the floor with Giorgio Margola (ITA), clearly winning with 9:2.
It was a one man show; and what a classical one. Stepanov played brilliant pool and left no chance for his pitiful opponent. He took his performance from North Cyprus up and performed amazingly strong. Out of his nine racks he ran seven with balls down on 100% of his break shots.
Margola could only come up with 40% break efficiency – not enough to endanger Stepanov at all.
One of the few mistakes Stepanov committed occurred in rack four. He ran out of position for the 8-ball and had to try and bank it into the side pocket. He missed and allowed Margola to open his account, still being in front 3:1. In the next rack, Stepanov even scratched on the 2-ball. But Margola was not able to benefit from Stepanov’s mistakes. He played poor positions and got himself in worse and worse situations which led
to him making mistakes. Stepanov consequently used his chances and punished Margola for his mistakes in that stage of the match. After nine racks, Stepanov was leading 8:1. He got some momentum going and played like he was not from this planet. In the 10th rack, Margola finally got a ball down on his break. But he only got to the 4-ball which he missed. However, he left a tough shot for Stepanov and the Russian also missed. This time, Margola was able to make use of his chance and scored his second point. But that was his last appearance at the table. Stepanov broke and ran the next rack to take a more
than deserved 9:2 victory over Margola.
Other notable results from the first winner’s round include Niels Feijen (NED) sneaking past Jonni Fulcher (GBR) with 9:8. Local hero Fabio Petroni (ITA) made short work of Balasz Miko (HUN), creaming him 9:2. Dutch prodigy Ivo Aarts collected his second 9:8 victory of the day. In round one he overcame Juan Carlos Exposito (ESP) while in round two Jani Siekkinen (FIN) was his chosen victim.

THERE were wins for three of the fancied teams at the 888.com World Cup of Pool as England B, Holland and the Philippines all made their way into the second round as play continued at the York Hall in London.
The Philippines pair of Dennis Orcollo and Lee Vann Corteza closed out the evening beating Croatia – Karlo Dalmatin and Ivica Putnik – 7-4. The Croatians were in with a chance as they stayed with their opponents in the early stages, but a succession of errors saw the team spirit drain away.
With a strong Filipino contingent in the crowd, including the Ambassador, the duo from Manila completed the win.
In the second match, England B – Chris Melling and Daryl Peach – were big favourites against a Portuguese team making their 888.com World Cup of Pool debut and they justified the bookmaker’s faith with a scrappy 7-4 win to book a second round game against Germany.
It wasn’t their greatest showing but if getting into the second round was their goal, they achieved it. They took the early 3-0 lead, but then Melling failed to get out of a snooker and with ball in hand, Portugal reduced the deficit. The Portuguese pair of Manual Gama and Guilherme Sousa started to shed their early nerves and after a poor miss on the brown 7 by Melling they got the score back to 3-4.
They shared the next two racks and at 5-4 down, Portugal had every chance of springing an upset. However, they couldn’t capitalise on it and the English pair held their nerve to get over the line
“Most players only play a table as quick as this in Matchroom events. It is a quality table and I don’t think you can find a table as quick as that,” said Melling.
“Most people at home don’t understand the pressure you are under. At the end of the day as long as you win that is main thing. We will both go back and assess our game because we both made some mistakes but we both made some great shots as well and that is the beauty of pool.”
Peach added, “It is a little bit nerve wracking but it’s nice to get the first match and the first win under your belt.”
Earlier, Holland, with the dependable duo of Niels Feijen and Nick Van Den Berg, took out Scotland 7-2 to advance to the last 16. With a wealth of scotch doubles experience, both in the Mosconi Cup and this event, they always had a little too much for the Scottish team comprised of American-based up and comer Jayson Shaw and seasoned vet Jonni Fulcher.
Feijen was delighted to get through what could potentially have been a banana skin; “It was the first match of the tournament and we had to get used to the table as it slides a lot and also the lights and the crowd.
“We grew in confidence though after both teams made a couple of mistakes. We’re a good doubles pair and have got a lot of experience and at this venue where we both helped take down the Mosconi Cup last December. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
The 2013 888.com World Cup of Pool runs from Tuesday September 17 to Sunday, September 22 at the famous York Hall in Bethnal Green, East London. The field features 32 teams from 31 countries in a single elimination format. The total prize fund is US$250,000 with $60,000 going to the eventual champions.
